Dick Smith and NAS: Do you want answers?
Over the last few months, Dick Smith has been posting on PPRuNE on the topic of the new NAS model for airspace reform. He has steadfastly evaded answering the "seven questions" below.
Do you believe that Dick Smith should answer the "seven questions" by posting on PPRuNE?
The “Seven Questions”
1) It seems to be an accepted fact that you have been a supporter of the NAS proposal since its inception. If you accept this, would you like to comment on any conflict of interest which may have arisen by virtue of your participation in the panel which was formed to assess airspace models. In effect, was your mind already made up before the first meeting?
a) Yes, my mind was made up. I support NAS wholeheartedly and have consistently advocated its adoption. I feel this is justifiable because .....
b) No, like Mr Forsyth, I was able to put aside my personal feelings and undertake a fair and open assessment of each model, based upon its merits. I achieved the requisite impartiality by .....
2) You have been chairman of the CAA and later CASA. Will you accept a senior position in the new airspace authority, if one is offered by the Minister?
Have any discussions regarding any such offer taken place?
a) Yes, if offered, I will accept a position.
b) No, I would consider it inappropriate to accept a position
c) No, I would refuse a position for other reasons
d) Yes, discussions have taken place, but no conclusions were reached
e) Yes, an offer was made
f) No, no discussions whatsoever have taken place
3) Will the minutes, submissions received, deliberations, decision-making process and voting of the panel be made public?
a) Yes
b) No
4) Given the fact that the cost estimates have been based upon "asking advice from air traffic controllers and ex Airservices management staff", will this advice be made public?
a) Yes
b) No
5) When this advice was received, how did it compare to the savings to be achieved through the other models (e.g. LLAMP)? Were any costings in fact done for any other models?
a) Detailed costings showed that NAS was cheaper than LAMP by $____________________ per annum
b) Detailed costings showed that NAS was more expensive than LAMP by $____________________ per annum
c) No comparative costings were done.
6) What was the basis for the safety case (or study/assessment etc.) for the adoption of the NAS system? How did it compare with the same studies done for the other models?
a) The safety cases (studies/assessments) showed:.....
b) No safety work was done
7) Who wrote NAS?
a) Dick Smith
b) Dick Smith and Qantas
c) Dick Smith with secretarial support from Qantas
d) Qantas
e) CASA
f) Dick Smith, CASA and Qantas
g)Other (specify) .....

I hope Dick does respond to this question, and will be very interested in his reply.
The gentleman is no dummy, and has a very lateral outlook on the worlds, even if someof us choose to disagree with some of his thinking.
Bring it awn Dick.

If the Electronic Person does not answer these questions, I believe he has no place in any aviation reform process because he does not believe in "Due Process" and accountability!!!
Answer Dick, you have everything to lose if you do not!

Mr Smith of course has like all of us, the right to not answer these or any questions.
The great value of PPRuNe is that the credibility of all who post here is determined by the quality of their debate and strength of their argument. It is a hard taskmaster and takes no prisoners.
So beware those who try to hit and run, as we all find out here, there is always someone out there who has the real facts and they have a really irritating habit of turning up.

Hello all,
As has been mentioned elsewhere, I have accepted the role as the team leader of the NAS Implementation Group. One of my team's first tasks will be to get around and talk about the NAS and to answer many of your questions.
Unfortunately, I am not in a position to answer the seven questions posted here, some of which are in the same category as the good old 'when did you stop beating your wife?' question. I am however, happy to take calls and discuss the project with any of you. My direct line is (02) 6287 6510, mobile 0418 673 677 and my email is [email protected].
Regards,
Mike Smith

Some questions you should be able to answer, Mike
Mike:
Where and when was the position of "team leader of the NAS Implementation Group" advertised?
What were the selection criteria?
Who was on the interview and selection panel?

Question for the Moderator
Woomera
Is it possible to produce a scatter diagram or some other graphical representation of the date of registration of each of the voters?
Presumably the voting mechanism captures the PPRuNe psuedonym of the voter, so as to exclude that person from voting again. Can it be done for date of registration?
I would be interested to see whether there is any non-stochastic variation between the ayes and nays.

open mic: you keep popping in to browse these threads, but you don’t post anything. Is your pseudonym indeed a reference to an unwanted unserviceability rather than a willingness to provide information?
I’m still interested to know:
