![Question](https://www.pprune.org/images/infopop/icons/icon5.gif)
Why was "the city of shepperton" a 747-200 doing power runs at CNS this morning with all four engines running whilst still connected to the international gate?
No tug attached just a little chock under the nose wheels!
Is this the new "we are the only airline"mentality?

I know that this is speculation, but, I assure you that it would not have been full power (probably about 70% N1 on one engine only (the others at idle) and it would have been cleared through ATC and the Safety Officers would have been in position. There are a small number of MEL's that require thrust slightly above idle to verify a requirement prior to dispatch.

Still speculating... but there is negligible safety concern doing a run as GB described at the terminal. Potentially done to investigate and clear a minor fault before departure... Similar in principle to running up a piston to remove deposits on the plugs.
