Question Hazo & Kendell?

Is today the day we find out the future of Kendell and Hazo?
The wait is killing me!!!

What happens if it's a sure thing, what routes will stay what will go?

What happens if it dies, is there someone else in the background to take up both airlines or just one?

Or, will just die and thousands of people will have to travel by car?

Who the hell knows. I recon this will go on and on for weeks or months more . Its been a game since day one. Remember Tessna ?
Have a look at this press release done by Australiwide on the 5th June :

KD WGA meets with Australiawide Airlines

Wednesday afternoon saw the Australiawide Executive team consisting of Michael Jones (CEO), Guy Farrow (GM Commercial Operations) and Darren Dougan (Chief Financial Officer) address the WGA staff of Kendell Airlines.

In a very positive address, Michael Jones spoke freely of his enthusiasm for a new merged airline and emphasised that without the professionalism & commitment of Kendell and Hazelton employees in maintaining a high standard operation that there would not have been any airlines worth buying.

Key points to come from the address from Australiawide were:

· The signing of the contract of sale is a week or so away and is being held up with finalisation of minor details
· The Airlines will be re-branded. Details are yet to be finalised
· WGA will most likely be the primary engineering base
· The corporate headquarters (senior management team) will be based in SYD, most likely at the airport
· WGA will maintain a strong presence as the epicentre of the network and may grow in employee numbers
· The new organisational structure of the airline should be finalised early in July
· No reduction in rates of pay is intended or anticipated
· The ports currently serviced by Kendell and Hazelton will be expanded to include some new routes
· Any staffing reductions stemming from the merger will probably come from employees that are already stood down and not worked since September.
· As many jobs as possible will be maintained.

Michael Jones emphasised that the merged airline will have a strong focus on customer service and efficiency, with every employee charged with providing the best possible service at all times. The new airline will be the largest regional airline in Australia and compete with QF-link head to head.

The Australiawide team continues the Roadshow in Melbourne and Adelaide tomorrow and intends to visit other ports in due course.

As you see they have declared they are to go head to head against QF. Can't in my wildest dreams believe anyone can survive in a head to head contest with QF .

Question

...... The corporate headquarters (senior management team) will be based in SYD, most likely at the airport .....
And how will that (the boffins being based in Sydney), benenfit the country people if they (those living in regional areas, who rely on commuter services heavily), remain out of sight and out of mind to those in corporate HQ? There is much to be said about executives living within the community they service, they are more likely to be aware of "the vibe" of the community and as such their mood.

Sad thing is that the dreams of both of the original founders of these airlines seem to have been thrown out in the dishwater so to speak.

I do hope that as few of you as possible lose your positions within your respective companies with these developments happening.

Interesting they mention they are the largest regional airline in Australia. Does not QANTASlink ( in total ) have 76 aircraft prior to the 1900's disappearing?

Not only is QF larger , it is getting larger by the day. More Dash 8's are on their way (from Germany) and more 717's (new).
QF have huge pockets - they can withstand any competition from a regional without a "big brother" behind it . It surprises me that anyone could believe there can be any long term success of a carrier that does not feed a major and goes "head to head" against such a major carrier. This is the real world , you have to work with QF not against them if you want longevity - thats just a simple plain fact of life. Perhaps thats why the sales contract STILL has not been signed.

Indeed, AIKN.

Knockout, most of the ports serviced by KD/ZL are also serviced by QF Link. People won't have to drive their cars, unless they really hate red.....

429, it doesn't matter where the corporate HQ is (unless you're D.S.) Providing you give the people a service at a price and times that suit them, they will use it. QF Link currently has its HQ's in capital cities, with the exception of Tamworth and Mildura, and they seem to do reasonably well.

Smile

So far the "govmint" has taxed enough out of the travelling public to probably have bought out the hole shebang themselves.

Buster, was only putting my point of view, and as far as some folks that I know around the place have mentioned, they'd feel better supporting their "local" guy also.

Regards,

Don't know much about their politics... usually I type on cabin crew forum and over there we don't fancy "heavy topics" too much...

However I wanted to mention a positive thing about Hazelton: a good friend of mine completed her f/a training with them 6 months ago and was put on hold afterwards. Finally the good news arrived last week: she'll start next Wednesday!
Sadly, she is probabily the only person that got a job with them since September last year...

Might not be a huge opened gate in the aviation industry but still one person made it through and hopefully there will be many to follow... without considering all the people already working for these companies that will finally start breathing again!

Note for 429CJ: you know my husband from what I heard! I thought you would want to know that he got a job (well, not THE job but at least it is a flying job...). It took him 6 bloody months but at the end it happened and we'll soon move to ..............!

That's EXCELLENT news! That's a long long long way to go, but it is one of the most beautiful parts of the world. Will catch-up soon, I hope.

And my concern is the reputed extend of Government financial backing for this deal.........

I wonder whether a "contribution" from the Ansett $10 passenger tax is going into the deal.........????

AITK - To correct you, the update that you have reproduced was not written by Australiawide, but by Kendell as a summary of what was discussed at the meeting.

We await the signing of the contract of sale as we have waited for the past 9 months. Patient we have become.

Kendell, Hazelton airlines sale close - Ansett admin
AAP|Published: Wednesday June 12, 3:46 PM

Ansett's administrator Mark Mentha today said the sale of Kendell Airlines and Hazelton Airlines looked set to occur this week.

The regional carriers were caught up in the collapse of their owner Ansett in September.

"We are hopeful of signing the sale agreement this week," Mr Mentha told reporters.

"Most of the condition precedents were met in the preferred bidder fortnight, we left the two preferred bidders open to sort out whether they had the funding and the various government assistance.

"I am meeting in Canberra tomorrow with the Department of Transport and Regional Services to just put the final dots on the I's and crosses on the T's in terms of the sale contract and completion hopefully this week."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Earlier, Mr Mentha told a business lunch that he still did not know what the exact reasons were for the Lindsay Fox-Solomon Lew backed Tesna consortium pulling out of a deal to buy Ansett in February.

The last minute decision by Tesna was at the time attributed by the consortium to legal reasons.

"To this day they haven't given an explanation as to the reasons why they withdrew," Mr Mentha said.

"We thought their business model would work."

Soon after the withdrawal, Mr Fox publicly blamed the federal government for the deal's demise.

Mr Fox said he believed the government engineered hurdles, including problems with transferring the leases for Ansett terminals, because the ACTU had been closely involved in the Tesna deal.

I have heard and read those words "hopefull of signing this week" before . And it never happens.
I hope they do finally sign and at the same time let the world know the full details of the transaction. I suspect a lot of our taxpayers money will go down the toilet on this deal . This clearly is not a simple commercial deal as it should be . But , lets see , perhaps these people can compete head to head with QF and make a profit - well I guess they can in their dreams at least

Hate to say I told you so , but thats another week gone by .

I have heard no noises that this is getting closer. I know that the "Australiawide" guys went to the USA last week to look at SAABS's - I hear they are trying to dump the existing lease aircraft and get some cheaper ones out of American Eagle . Tired old bags of bolts .

We all wait with anticipation ......

Deja Vu!

Torres its so depressingly familiar aint it.

They ARE following the FLEW script almost exactly?

Wait, let's see, we are up to the part where they go OS at the last moment to do the "final deal" on the aircraft, while they're really there try to pitch for money from some aviation magnet on how to make a small fortune as a little Ozzie battler in the Oz regional market place.

Wont be long know for the denouement, there's only a few more pages and the bit to come where they say "we've got it in spades" then...........and the band played 'Waltzing Matilda'................

There was an article in the Adelaide Advertiser a couple of days ago, saying that it was just a matter of crossing the 't's and dotting the 'i's and it would be complete.

Also said that no SA jobs nor any SA routes would go, and that some routes may get added frequencies.

I'll believe it when I see it.
