Sorry if I misled you with my previous post Chuck. I hadn't meant to infer that it was any of them "bip" places, just in the same vicinity as them. I'll give a further clue by saying that Nr. 2 is inside a 20NM radius of OLS.

Hmmm......curiouser and curiouser
Well it's not Selbang, Tekin is closer to 40nm away, Bimin is more than 30,it isn't Telefomin or Biangabip. Feramin is closed or was...
Telfalmin?
Chuck.

Ummm, sorry Chuck but mustard is right. Take a look at Plugga's Album on my FotoTime site, to see his own captions.
In case others aren't aware of it, I excluded Chuck from naming Boang as "Nr. 1" because of the time he did with Airlink at Rabaul.

No it's not Selbang...but I'll email Stringer and ask him...he was in Tububil for ages with Talair. I only route endorsed C180 mission pilots in thier on loan from Talair.

Plugga fed the captions to me, at Chez OzExpat on Friday. We went thru each photo and I entered the captions as he narrated them. He's been based at TBG for the last 12 months or so and was on his way back there, for his next 28 days on, last Saturday.
Don't think he can get into PPRuNe while he's there, but I'm pretty sure I can contact him by e-mail to check it with him. I was quite sure it was Selbang and stated as much as soon as the photo opened in the program to take the caption. Not that I know the place well but he agreed straight away, saying it looks a bit different because of the angle of the photo and the cloud line along the hills behind it.
Still, it's imprtant to get it right, so I'll happily amend the caption if the place proves to be some other goat track!

It's possible I'm remembering it wrong...haven't been their since 1991 or 92 but that photo is so at odds with my memory of Selbang. My memory of Selbang was a steeper, shorter, rougher version of Sopu. And I don't remember any buildings like those in the photo...if I'm wrong I'll happily admit my mistake.

Maybe this will help. Just got a photo of Selbang from mustard, a bloke who spent 4 years at the TBG base with MBA. Check out mustard's photo of Selbang for a comparison with the photo by Plugga. I'm sure it's the angle of the photo, the bits hidden under the Twotter's nose AND the cloud line that's throwing you Chuck.
Course, it could also be the 10 intervening years too...

We still luv ya anyway Chuck!
Mate, you've been spot on with advice, comments and goat track identification ever since you've been on here. I've been awed by the depth of your memory of so many places that you haven't seen in 10 years or more. That's the sort of real experience that we still need here, so don't let one little hiccup worry you.

I was looking at a Jepp chart the other day and noticed how the international terminal at POM is now located at the old Aero Club site where I learnt to fly and Yorkies place is now the domestic terminal. Where did the old Ettamogah Pub go? Fond memories there. The old terminal which my father helped design is now called the 'old terminal' curiously enough.
Then I gazed at the airspace around POM and new places such as Moro and Goboh appeared.
Someone care to tell us about those two places. They have NDBs so resource companies must have paid for them.
How long are they? Who flys there? What types? GPS or NDB approaches? What about Tabubil/Ok Tedi, is it still operational?
Bougainville, is there law and order there now? What about the mine? Porgera- still going? I will never forget the Mt Kare Gold rush. Sooty waist deep in mud at 10,000' altitude probably washing more downstream than they collected.

Yikes! So many questions so late in the night!
Well, lets see... Moro and Gobe were built by Chevron Niugini.
Moro is adjacent to the site of the original Moro airstrip but 1200 metres long. One-way ops - land 27, tkof 09. NDB and NDB/DME approaches, GPS NPA to RWY 27.
Chevron also built Gobe, tho its fair to say that its basically just been carved out of the trees and the swamplands. Two way ops, RWYs 14/32, when originally built was just 900 metres but now lengthened to 1050 metres. Served by NDB and NDB/DME circling approaches and a GPS NPA cirling approach.
Tabubil is definitely still operational.
It's too late in the night for me to spend more time answering the rest, so I'll leave those questions for someone to answer.

Okay, I'm back and it seems that nobody else has tried to answer the rest of your questions Ivan. Well, I've got a few spare moments so I'll field the question about Porgera now.
There has been significant disruption to commerce in the Highlands, due to the current and still on-going national elections. One of the innocent victims of this seems to be Porgera. They haven't received fuel deliveries in a very long time and this is markedly affecting just about everything in the place.
Last I heard - just a few days ago - there was a thought that they might have to close down operations for a while. If this happens, it will be a massive blow to the country, to its economy AND, certainly, to its ever diminishing credibility around the world.
No surprise there, huh?
