Veg ... Ted's Aero Club is sometimes also known as the South Pacific Aero Club. These days, it's located at the south-end of the field, where most of the GA operators also had to relocate to, due to the construction of new domestic and international terminals on the site of the old "temple" and the adjacent PNGDF base and, of course, PNG Aviation Services.

The place is nothing like you'll remember Veg...

Cool

Ted's Place.

The name is 'The Aero Club'.

The South Pacific Aero Club is currently in recess. No flyable aircraft, no instructor, no flying and very little enthusiasm or club spirit(apart from that in a bottle). Some time ago, the committee elected Ted Kennedy to the Board as Social Director/Manager after which Ted spent a substantial amount on refurbishing the 'tin shed' that he now runs on his own as 'the Aero Club'.

Yes. there is an expat Pizza maker there producing delightful things and yes, there are many other things from around the place that also may be purchased (or so I am led to believe) and yes, 'The Aero Club' is most certainly not what it was many years ago when there was a bit of flying, Friday night barbies and movies for the family.

Ted does dispense many an ice cold SP on tap at K3(US$.70) a handle, cheaper than the Yacht Club and hotels around town and the place is well patronised by airport and other city people.

Not as long ago as some but still a bit.

Just came across some old paperwork regards strips.

Shortest I saw - DAUP on Karkar Island 370 m, 300' 5% NE, normally in the Islander although the Trislander was know to visit.

Short & Steep - KANAINJ west of Madang. 388 m, 3800' 13% W
I know this strip was reported as steeper - don't know the trueth?

Highest - TEPTEP 640 m, 7150' 10% NW

Just my experience, no doubt there are some more extreem.

Just found KAREGARI 8700'.

Thumbs up

Sharpie, I understand that Friday is still popular at "The Aero Club". Many "items" on special, but buyers need to act before about 7:30PM, or they miss out...

2daddies ... there is, as yet, no internal CAA phone book. The last one I saw was over 10 years ago, when we were all still at Konedobu. I see JR quite regularly but have never had reason to phone him at the office so I'm not sure of his phone nr.

But, having said all of that, I think his number might be +675 3244427. I suspect that someone like Sharpie would have more reason to know his number than I do, so maybe he can chime in and confirm ... or otherwise. Yep, yer right, nuthin has improved since you were last here...

TwoDogs ... reply enroute mate! Sorry for the delay, but I'm only on here once a day - in the evenings.

Smile BTTT

I had a few drinks with Plugga this evening and he gave me two diskettes of photos for his gallery. 24 in all! I'd have put them online already, but need to get captions from him. Hope the delay won't be lengthy.

Had e-mail from Pinky today as well, promising more pics for his gallery.

All good news! This thread isn't finished yet!

Hey guys....how much DOES a two kina cost these days taking into account inflation, currency losses, market forces, stock market indices and plain old fashioned hornymeter reading.??
I know that most of you are respectable pillars of the Port Morbid community, but maybe someone who knew someone down the Aviat who once talked to a guy up at the Yottie, who told someone at the dero MAY just know.

Yeah Oz....people said you weren't fit to live with pigs....but I defended you

2 Kina Meris...well I guess taking all things into consideration they are probably worth about 10 Toea these days.

Mind you I hear Sharpie's partner in crime on the 4th floor has a different view.

Talking

TD ... last time I talked to "someone who knew someone down the Aviat who once talked to a guy up at the Yottie, who told someone at the dero", inflation had caught up and two kina was costing five kina. But that was a couple years ago... gawd only knows what the cost is these days.

If the Friday nite group at the Dero is any yardstick, most of them are looking for a "sugar daddy". And, the way it looks to my ... errm ... untrained eye they're finding a few there!

Soon as I get a moment, I'll send you that copy of the Register. It'll be in Excel format so you'll be able to muck around with it as much as you like.

Chuck ... thanks mate, even the pigs are grateful!

Veg ... good to see the good ol' BBC finally catching up with the things we've all known about for a decade!

itsa_me ... why mate, have you lost one?

And now kiddies, it's my very sad duty to announce the continuation of the ...

Guess The Goat Track competition!

Nr. 1

Nr. 2

RULES ...

Well, there's really only one rule this time - Chuck is ruled ineligible to guess Nr. 1!

The standard prize is once again up for grabs - you all know what the prize is by now! Now, lets be havin' all them guesses...!

Well Ok...all I'll say about No 1 is I've landed towards the water there as opposed to wearing a 20kt + tailwind

2 could easily be Siwea but not quite a good enough piccy for me to be sure...or perhaps it's the 14 year passage of time since I last landed at Siwea too

I was sure that you'd nail Nr. 1 Chuck and ya haven't disappointed me! The place DOES get a bit windy! That's probably given it away to someone else now coz its a pretty unique spot.

Sadly, Nr. 2 isn't Siwea.

Then it must be Olsobip

Seem to remember it had a rather interesting visual illusion on finals that could make the unwary try and fly uphill on final...as a young Islander driver found to his horror is impossible.

Still my mental image of Olsobip had a much higher hill behind it...perhaps covered in cloud in the piccy.

NEXT!!!!!!!
