I can't help but feel this is an excellent aviation opportunity ..... for an adequately capitalised operator with real aviation management experience.

Are subsidies really required? QantasLink don't seem to require subsidies.

I think the greatest impediment to long term stability and therefor viability and profitability of airlines is beancounters and their ABSOLUTE MANIC HATRED OF UNENCUMBERED ASSETS.

In the past people like Reg Ansett, Dennis Buchanan, Kendal, Max Hazelton etc etc actually paid things off...when times were tough, as they invariable become in this cyclic industry, they parked aircraft in a quiet spot in a semi mothballed state until things picked up again...as they invariable do.

Buildings, office machinery etc etc was likewise owned and therefor was not a drain on cashflow permanently.

Nowadays these clever beancounters lease absolutely EVERYTHING so have little ability to weather slow times because the overheads cannot be reduced to match.

Yes I know leases are tax deductable etc but until beancounters stop just looking at assets as dead money and to be avoided at all costs we will not see an end to the 'short term gain then fark off quick' mentality that so pervades management at the highest levels.

Nieve? probably

Chuck.

Rotten trick to use our taxpayers money to create a state supported airline to compete our there against companies with the guts to borrow money from banks and investors. If i were QF I would be livid. What about all the other regionals like ****** , Oconnors , Skippers , Horizon(soon to be) , etc - are they going to get a piece of your taxpayers money ? No . If the govt was fair in this they would be supporting regional aviation as a whole - not a bunch of wanabee airline owners without the bucks behind them to do things off their own back. I am sure if any of the other operators were offered Hazo's and KD with govt support they would have bought it too. But no ... the govt kept saying no handouts . Why the change in tune now ? Vote buying ? or something more sinister . A rotten precedent that will come back to haunt them when these guys go broke down the line taking our taxpayers money with them.

Tuesday is the next big milestone. Supposed to have a signed sales contract by that time . Would not bet the town halls that happens by then. Another extension is my guess . Shades of tesna. It was supposed to be signed last tuesday ....... my guess is that this will keep going on so long as the administrator is making a buck out of it.

This topic has gone awfully quiet.

Are Kendells dead, or will that be announced tomorrow ?

Any takers....

(I would just rather my taxes be spent on schools, roads and hospitals, not supporting an airline)

gossmann, the qld state government called for tenders for a five year contract on all subsidised runs 2-3 weeks ago. These are the former FWA runs and now include the gulf routes. Several airlines have replied to the tender. Could your little bird be the Qld Transport Minister who announced it at a press conference after a nationwide media release?

The airlines mentioned by "aviator in the know" (add QFlink to his list) get no payroll tax exemptions, no airservices exemptions, no federal govt debt relief and certainly don't get a $5m line of credit from the Govt. This is the point I think he was making.

Any subsidies for whoever gets the Qld State Govt routes at least come after a tender process for everyone to have a go at.

I hear that Australia Wide are back with the Administrators today attempting to re-negotiate the deal again . I guess with Virgin in Coffs that kills another income stream for them and they will be asking for compensation ! I also hear Inland Marketing are none too happy about their treatment by the administrators (who is !) and are taking legal action.
This tuesdays deadline missed , as was last , now extended till July - what a joke . No wonder staff are jumping ship . I would think anyone with brains can see this is very likely to become a Tessna . Virgin has tied up with United , no sign of any "regional affiliations" how could Hazo/KD exist on their own given the cirumstances. As Virgin are doing Coffs , whats next . I guess they will target all ports over 100,000 or so pax killing any turboprop competition . Watch this space ..........

Solly and his mate would be delighted to quit theirs.

My sentiments too, Hairy Lasso.

It's mildly amusing to see some of these "Aviation Experts" posting under this heading while, judging by their previous posts, they're obviously not

One or two are good reads, having been around a while, read widely themselves and are usually unswayed by silly rumour, but there's a few cretins who only pop in here to post things like -

Are Kendells dead, or will that be announced tomorrow
Personally, I prefer not to wish ill upon fellow aviators.

BLUDGING AIRLINES

IT SEEMS THAT OUR MAJOR AND REGIONAL AIRLINES , ARE SO OVERCAPITALISED THAT THEY REQUIRE GOVERNMENT FINANCIAL SUPPORT, AND NEED casa TO PROTECT THEM FROM COMPETITORS. THE WHOLE AVIATION INDUSTRY IS IN CRISIS, FROM ALICE SPRINGS TO QANTAS, BECAUSE IT IS MANIPULATED BY GOVERNMENT. ANSETT SHOULD STILL BE HERE AND WOULD BE IF THEY HAD HAD A FAIR GO FROM THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT. IT IS A NATIONAL EMERGENCY. THE OUTBACK IS DYING, AS G.A. IS SEEN AS ONLY A TRAINING SCHOOL FOR QANTAS PILOTS. IT IS MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THAN THAT. THE OUTBACK WILL DIE WITH IT.

LET MARKET FORCES OPERATE. LET THE EFFICIENT ONES FLY

hey bushy!!!!!!

Bushy, your views are fair, but not accurate. In all due respects to your point of view, you should research more. CASA doesn't protect. GA Training does not nurturing ground for Qantas. The outback isn't struggling, (I live in a farming area, and I wish I had half of what a farmer has!). I don't think all is rosey, there are problems, but generalised comments although noteworthy from your perspective hold little water and credibility.
