Rugby World Cup
Samuel,
Sport is sometime as much about luck as form, the All Blacks could have used some recently; the Wallabies have won two World Cups, to AB's one; Australia has, for the first time, more rugby players than NZ, so the 18 million v's 3 million statistic is a poor one.
I would have liked to see a joint competition, and don't think that we should get distracted from the real task, which is to give the frogs and the poms a serious kicking for continually saying they are the worlds best just becuase they won six nations!
Maybe the hosting result would have been different if Australia was preparing to field a fourth Super 12 team next year..........

For all the best info (from both sides of the creek) check out www.rugbyheaven.com.au
It seems the NZ public have been fooled into placing the blame away from where it soley lies. But then again, I'm yet to meet too many kiwis who haven't made claim to have been "robbed" by someone (usually the referee) when they lose a game. Same here.
NZRU blocked our logical request (as supported by SARU) for a 4th Super 12 team on purley selfish grounds, and now have the audasity to blame the ARU for their own mismanagement regarding the RWC?! What goes around comes around.
As for the Super 12.......what about Waratahs last night!!! And, latest news is that due to news Corps "ownership" of the SUper 12 and the contract to be renewed next year, I read on the Rugby Heaven web site the other day that News Corp may take a team form NZ anyway and add one to Australia. That's just a rumour - but it would be great.

The best bit of the Waratahs/Brumbies game was, finally, a referee with the balls to tell Gregan not only to shut up, but marched him back ten ! Loved it. As for the quality of the rugby-----
And, now that it might be possible to buy a ticket without having to mortgage the house for a package I don't need 'cos I can stay with my Skippy mates, and have enough Qantas FF points to cover it, I might just come across to gloat!

Delay? What delay?

Nothing whatsoever nzer, if you don't like it, dont post. Or you could complain to the moderator and have it moved to jetblast.
Posts about rugby on jet blast disappear without trace due to the large number of posts on that forum, and so I posted in this forum because you guys care more about the game. Not that I need to justify myself to you. Like I said, if you don't like it, why post?

Yotty's absolutely right! England is the better team because their players have that special flair that makes their rugby so entertaining. I just hope tht the rumours about their teams habitual homosexual promiscuity don't derail their world cup preparations.....

Baron and Yotty,
England are an extremely good outfit - surrounded by poor coaching, administration and a pathetic media. How should I know? I played in London professionally for 3.5 years and saw all the rot that Twickenham administration had to offer. Players like Johnny Wilkenson are wasted. He is the best in his position no argument there - but could you imagine how much better he could be with a season of Super 12 and the coaching standard he would receive??!!
An example of the pathetic system? In a name: "Mike Catt". Couldn't make a Sth African provincial team (and he is Sth African by the way), came to England, played for Bath and keeps getting selected for the national team year after year. Very amusing. Even the pommie crowds moan when he takes the field!
Will Carling summed it up: boring old farts!
And those lions??? Lets put it into perspective......the combination of 4 national rugby unions couldn't defeat a single nation. In perspective a combined Aussie, NZ and SA team should be assembled to play them, if you want to keep it in perspective that is....... It will never happen as we don't need to!
Bring on the RWC. There'll be a lot of surprises I reckon. Perhaps the pomms can kick their way into another semi final position?
Any bidders wishing to throw their hat in the ring and try to select a Wallaby starting 15?

Well - Why doesn't he?
Johnny Wilkensen could very easily offer himself to any of the provincial clubs in NZ (or I daresay OZ) and go through the normal selection process as do alot of the Fijian, Samoan and other imports that play in super 12. If he is as good as you say then let him come.
I wonder why it all seems to be one way traffic from Southern hemisphere to Northern hemisphere?
Oh and by the way - I do not believe England will even make the semis (given their performance in the 6 nations)

Clutchcargo,
You've got me wrong. I'm an Aussie who went o/s for a few years for rugby. I too reckon the pomms will be lucky to get too far going on their 6 Nations effort. Settle down big fella!!! I'm on your side!
I'm not sure about the legalities but I don't think "foreign" (if there's such a thing anymore) players can play Super 12. I think it's some kind of closed shop as set up by SANZAR. Would be intersted to know the truth though, ie Rauluni (spelt right?) for Q'land is the present Figian test halfback. I was told he had an exemption (?). Otherwise it takes (again I think) close to 2 years as a resident to qualify to play for Australia, therefore get a Super 12 jersey (?).
Why do players go to the north from the south? MONEY!! The money in Europen rugby at club level is out of control. Players over there who couldn't make a first grade team here in the QLD comp or NSW (or even a 2nd or 3rd grade in some cases!!) are getting paid more money than some Super 12 contrcted players to play in the first and second divisions over there. Other players go to play out the twilight of their career and get HUGE bucks for doing it (Michael Lynagh, Phillipe Sella, Tony Daley, Francois Pinear, Jim Staples, Thierry Le Croix made up the '97 Saracens team when I was there - a Barabarian team really!). And recently the great Tim Horan and Jason Little..........
Bottom line is - and only my opinion - the RWC will be as usual bloody fantastic. Thanks to the NZRU for stuffing it all up and handing it all to us! England are good but internal goings on courtesy of their system continues to let themselves down and their talented players. France will have a good showing, and the Wallabies will keep Bill here for the next 4 years. Keep an eye on the Pumas.

Just spent the weekend in London and went to see the annual Army v's Royal Navy match at Twickenham. A great display of northern hemisphere rugby, with lots of kicking, only one try (to Navy) and Army coming away with it for having defended and kicked better. Neither team attacked with much flair.
Classic; run to the biggest gap, get isolated, turn the ball over in a scrappy maul and turn around to chase a kick to the sideline. BORING.
The beer was good though!

Just mainly a wind up.
Have to agree with you (most unfortunately - what with you being an ozzie and all )
We currenlty have a "national" inquiry going on to find out why the NZRFU lost the sub-host status of the world cup. My suspicions are that they tried brinkmanship once too often and found that the IRB didn't roll over and play dead.
I would like to think that a lot of good will come out of the investigation but, due to the respective RFU's being made up of ex-players and such like, it will be a closed shopand nothing more will be learnt.
As regards the eligibility status of the super 12, a player must have resided in the respective country for a minimum of 24 months and have played club-level rugby for a minimum of 12 months. Because they are not eligible to play for the AB's, they can still choose to play for their own country. (Rauluini is a good example, along with Vunimbaka - who currently plays for the Crusaders and also plays sevens and 15 aside for Fiji).
As for the RWC- It will be a spectacle for Southern Hemisphere rugby - my pick for the semis would have to be......
All Blacks
France (because of their flair and performance in the 6 nations)
Australia
South Africa
Although Argentina can definitely cause an upset.
But of course the AB's will prevail.
