Post A Current Affair @ Sydney

Anyone watching ACA from Sydney Control Tower about "air safety."(CST) Last comment was this is the first time access has been alow to an air traffic control tower... said as if they are top secret, special locations...???

So far they haven't said anything special though... oh wait they are just trying to make it sound like ATC is SO Dangerous in Australia. <img src="frown.gif" border="0">

No, its' not the first time media has been allowed in a tower - they do it often and it's not top secret. Usually the material is pre-recorded or used a background or placed on file - maybe this is the first time they've been allowed to broadcast LIVE from an Aussie tower cab.

I agree, they didn't say anything special, just glamourised/mildly sensationalised the job, as is the media's wont. The general public love it, and the general public is their audience ....

Loved the part where Mike Munro explains that Sydney is the most hi tech tower around with every piece of sophisticated equipment going, to demonstrate this... images of a bloke writing info for an aircraft on a block of wood before sliding down to the next guy.

I wonder if he had to rock up 60 minutes early for mandatory holding???

I thought it was great that they said Ken was the boss of the nations ATC's, wonder what Bernie (CEO) and his mates in CB thought of that?

I loved the comment that "...if we thought of them {radar paints} as aircraft full of people, we probably wouldn't do half the things we do..." !!!

Question

Is this a plan by ASA to look hard done by in eyes of the public with the current EBA negotiations with the unions stalling? Or is it an attempt to assure the public about safety in the air post Sept11??

It was more free advertising for VB.

Did QF decline access to flight deck perhaps?

Talking

I cracked up at how busy it was: "One A/C every 60 seconds makes it a very busy airport" (or some such drivel)

Compared to Innamincka

Exclamation

"....blah blah blah, with these dedicated Air Traffic Controls.....blah blah...makes Australia some of the safest airspace in the world" or some such drivel.

With one movement per minute at our bussiest airport, 80% of the time CAVOK, no snow, no mountains to speak of and F**k all traffic, one would bloody hope so!! Sheeze.

I was a little disappointed not to see ASA's Manager of Unnecessary Change at the base of the tower putting in his two bob's worth, explaining the erratum to the addemdum to the revised edition of AIP-DAP that had to be reprinted and re-holepunched and re-formatted and re-security checked.
