Question 5 Year Prediction, who's game??

Well, we're only 3/4 of the way through what has already proven to undoubtedly be the most turmultuous and dynamic year in the history of Australian/NZ aviation, and there may be even more surprises in store yet.
Who's game enough to hazard a guess as to where the cards will have fallen in 5 years time?
My money's on the good old duopoly, but not as we know it. Qantas will still be around, but as for the other half of the duo, I'm not sure that Virgin Blue would neccessarily fill the void in the wake of Ansett's demise (which unfortunately seems imminent), at least not in their current form. VB has done extremely well in capturing their target market to date, but their target market has not been the entire market.
Whilst the Ansett we know today might not be around, it would not be at all surprising to see the brand name still floating around for a little while yet, TWA style.
There'll probably also be two international airlines also, but I'm not sure that QF's new venture would survive "as is" either, but might undergo a few amalgamations/ownership transfers/re-evaluations in order to better cater to the available market, and make further use of a few marketing holes to be left in the wake of the "2001 Aviation Crossroads".
Any other thoughts??

Thumbs down

I hate to confess to this but...

I believe SQ & BA will be running the show completely by then, only in disguise. A very poor disguise!!

Singapore and London are in the drivers seat right now. One of the spoilers will be a budget airline run by Wayne Dodge :o

Why not

Wink

Qantas & Virgin Blue to share whats left of Ansett.

QF set up there low cost operation to do there less profitable routes using ex ansett drivers and pay them sod all because there will be a "special bunch" of them who will take whatever they are offered.

VB will expand rapidly on the main routes with SIA possible buying into them to fund there growth. In a few years time when they are going really well they'll float half the outfit on the stock exchage and Branson /SIA make a huge killing.

Freedom Air will start operating domestically in Australia to keep everyone honest.

AirNZ hopefully will expand it's onwards (Intl)carriage out of Australia in partnership with SIA/VB.

The Ansett shambles will be hottly debated in conjuntion with the 89 dispute for the next 20yrs on prunne ensuring that Danny has many more sleepless nights!

Unhappy

5 days KEG, I think you are being a bit forward in your thinking for me.

5 minutes seems to be the most that I can keep in front of the situation at the moment.

Must agree though that (domestic & international)Pilot wages will drop over the next few years, and NO I don't belive it will be pretty.

All the best boys, because things thay ara changing.

Question

In five years, fifty years and five hundred years I think we will look back on today and think "that was the day that everything changed". I can only hope that whatever happens, it ends up for the best.

The American experience today does place everything in perspective I feel. My condolences to all affected. Now lets sort this thinng out so it never happens again. Only question...how???
