GA safety
Recent incident's, involving light aircraft, has got the grey matter sparking in the minds of many GA pilots.
Taking a sample of one airport; Jandakot.
* Recently we had a C172 (S.F.C) go down just shy of rwy 24L
* Piper Warrior suffer an engine failure after takeoff in Beverley
* SLX single engine landing
* C172 (S.F.C) again, clipped its wing on the ground while taking a corner too fast.
* 2 Prop stikes reported.
* HQZ removing extra balast (Pilots window) in flight.
This is only JT. Imagine if we considered it on a National Level?
Is this a passing phase? Or is this a glimmer of things to come. Considering the age of the aircraft we are flying, it comes as no real suprise, but how long and how much worse are things going to get?

What has to considered is the number of movements everyday at places like JT. You will find that when it comes down to it safety is a hell of alot better up there than say on the Kwinana Freeway which I plough every day.
In spite of how the media beats things up to a frenzy I think that credit has to be given to the reliability of aircraft and general safety of well trained pilots who have prevented allowing minor misshaps to make the front page of papers.

IMHO the age of the aircraft and how many hours it has done are not a factor provided the maintenance is up to speed, which I'm sure it was in the above cases. (The SFC C172s are the latest model) There's been a lot of bad luck around YPJT in the last few days, but it's a tribute to safety and pilot skill that no-one has been hurt, and that these have been "forced landings" rather than "crashes" whatever the media want to call them.
