Amusing waypoint names
BN terminal area certainly has a few...
Eskey, Rudey, Wacko, Smoka, Dolfn, Digga. The Quiet 1 STAR also tracks via Wispa.
Can anyone dispel the rumour that the old Letti STAR in sydney was named after a controller that left and joined an airline in latter years. One of the other points near BN is called Cleos, one of the controllers has said that by strange reason one of the senior guys at ASA in BN has a wife of the same name! Nothin says love like a waypoint name! Whats next a Bitchy 1 arrival, slut transition

ATC name many after themselves.
WENDY arrival in Melbourne is alleged to be the worst route in Australia.
And are BLAKA and WHITI racist or just dudes names?
And how about changing ARBEY. Everyone must be fed up with ARBEY arrivals by now. Give someone else a go fellas and girls.

I heard a rumour that LAMAX or LANGA (or both), near ML are named after Kendell's most senior guy, Max Langshaw.
Any truth in this?

Some of you fellas musta been in the same CPL (RIC) and IREX (SIT) tech classes that I took a couple of years ago. We sat around waiting for the teacher to arrive one day and had one of those worldly discussions about them.

Had to change my fishing point in the handheld GPS from SNAPA to Snapper because one of the IFR boys got a little worried when he was overflying my favoutite fishing spot instead of heading the other way toward Port Hedland.

There were a couple on the way to Lord Howe called "Falcon" and Fairmont"
My personal favourites were around Karatha, Mary's( or Fanny's passage?) Passage and Intercourse Island...You'd hear the pilots reporting Mary's passage estimating Intercourse....

As some of you may know ATC in most places except good old OZ use the terminology "routing" Oz the out of date "tracking".
There's a waypoint in the Atlantic south of the UK called "CATHY"
Heard one particular day, ATC to A/C "are you routing CATHY" the response "I thought I was"
Turned out the skippers wifes name was CATHY
Priceless

Not sure if these exist anymore, we used to call "Over a 'Hosty'" somewhere between Australia and Singapore. Also, near Fukuoka was (and still is?) a waypoint called 'Fukue'.

Transition Layer,
LAMAX northeast of ML was named after Max Langshaw.
I believe NEILS is named after Neil Storen, another KD senior driver.
No-one has mentioned CHITT yet (pronounced **** ) on the ML-MIA track.
For those of you who are GPS NPA endorsed, you would know that the waypoints for the approach are created as follows:
*First three letters is the ICAO designator minus the Y. For Cunderdin, WA this is CUN
*Forth letter is the direction the approach comes from. For Cunderdin RWY23, this is North, ie. N.
*Fifth letter is representative of where you are on the approach. eg. I for IAF, F for FAF, T for turning waypoint.
So there was a waypoint called CUNNT which went unnoticed until CASA did a presentation on GPS NPAs and discovered this waypoint during the presentation.

"I'm not sure where it is, maybe Salt Lake City, but the outer marker is called SANND and the middle marker is BUNKR...
Also a GPS approach, again in America, with initial, intermediate, final and missed approach fixes called ITAWT, ITAWA, PUDDE, TAATT.
"
I have a .jpg piccie of the "Tweety Approach" plates if you (or anyone) wants it emailed.

ELBIS is north of DN on the boundary of the Aussie and Ujung FIR's and on the radio's sounds a lot like Elvis. Was approaching there a few weeks ago after giving a pos. report when Ujung asked:
"Confirm ELBIS time ....?"
"Uh Huh!"
Couldn't resist! Well, it was very early in the morning and I had to do something to pass the time!
