Cool

fnb:. .I shared your passions: I wanted nothing more than to fly rotary wing (or maybe nav, FW or even FJ at a stretch) so I did. . .. .That statement summarises the last 7 pages (minus the F111 Mutual Admiration Society bulletins). . .. .So, nuff yappin - go do it boy. If'n you dont know now - eject, eject, eject. Good luck.. .. .

Said it all for me some moons ago when I was a little younger even than I am now.. .. .Scene 1, Act 111. .Airshow ends, crowds milling around, non base aircraft preparing to depart to their own, waiting patiently to get mine (civilian turbine)out of the parking queue.. .Spots impossibly beautiful young thing behind crowd barrier, decides to leave wife and kids for the chance at just one night with this vision of beauty, field promotion bestowed on FO to Capt for the return flight as I prepare to egress the cockpit to follow my dream.. .Impossibly young male child, barely shaving age, dressed up in the flight suit of an RAAF Flt Lt bounces across tarmac and does love scene from Top Gun with vision behind the barrier. How can this be, why he must still be in kinder and in this State the male age of consent is still 18 dammit.. .Meanwhile the crusty old P3 crew chief is giving him the "c'mon son lets go" routine, thinks to myself ahhhh... he leaves the field for me then.. .Waits till he sprints across to P3 and boards whilst the engines are starting to spin.. .. .Quelle horror.........child appears in cockpit, Mais non...it cant be HIM strapping himself into the Captains seat..Alors it IS... merde... my dreams sail out my window as HE head and shoulders out of his, blows several godzillion kisses to the vision who returns them on the forehand volley, before HE gives the "chocks away" and disappears in that wonderful growling/moaning sound of the big Allisons. .. .I sit watching her watching him, misty eyed as the four smoke trails point theselves towards wherever home is that night and who knows to what adventures the next day, then turns to board the aircraft that will take her to her home.. .. .Demotes new field promoted Capt to FA on the grounds of insubordinate smirk coupled with the "stupid old bastard, now can we go" remark, finds metaphorical dog to kick, makes origami RAAF pilot doll out of Flight Plan form and sticks pins in it, contemplating the wiseosity of a different choice made many years before.. .. .Go for it I say, you are not young for very long so don't waste time worrying about the odd 10 years or so and the speed of getting to wherever, have fun while you are able and just do it. . .. .You are old for too long a time to regret that you didn't.. . . . [ 16 March 2002, 03:46: Message edited by: gaunty ]

hey guys. .i've just been offered an interview for the RAAF pilot entry program. however i've been told by the sergeant in charge of the medical exam that in order to qualify for the pilot program one must have, and there are no exceptions as yet, 6 on 6 uncorrected vision - which i do not have, i need my lenses to fly. . .the interview isn't for another 3 weeks and i'm wondering is it worth sticking around sydney where there's not much flying for someone like me only to have this confirmed for me on the day, or should i head up north and start making myself known to the dry season hirers?. .any advice, info, even abuse, please!
