Post Woman tries to steal a Sunstate Shorts 360

On the news last night and today, a woman tried to Steal the Shorts 360 from Bundaberg airport yesterday. She was found in the cockpit.

I guess you can spend millions on upgrading security at major airports, but there are many regional airports in Australia with nothing more than a 1 metre high fence around them.

The door was left open, the keys left in the ignition, tanks full of full, along with a 'quicky guide to flying the shed' placed on the drivers seat. Rumours that the offender was offered a million FF points are unfounded.

Uncalled for Vince, especially as your comments broadcast loud and clear that you haven't got a clue about the AWPA.

The answer is easy, she was in Bundy and thought the place looked like a museum. Then she thought she'd have a closer look at one of the displayed museum pieces

Unhappy

Last time someone tried to pinch a Sunnies aircraft it was an N24 Nomad (long nose version) from Noosa.

The perpertrator was p!ssed and allegedly intended to take his girlfriend 'out' by flying it into an apartment building at Noosa.

The aircraft was found, engines running, by the morning's pilot, after it had been taxied into an empty fuel tanker and abandoned.

The heroic ('troubled') would be pilot was found comatose in a gutter not far from the airport. He was very lucky to have been able to exit the aircraft with engines running without mincing himself.

I believe he stole a Baron from Bankstown some years later and died after ploughing it into a dam near Bringelly.

Back to the more serious side of this event.. .Many regional airports dont even have a 1 m high fence. And if they do the access code for the gate can be found in ERSA, of which many can be found laying about in aero clubs...But why use the gate when you can slip thru the holes in the fence. And the airport safety officer if awake will most likely be at the other end of the field. No offence to the safety officers...but you cant be everywhere at the same time.. . And if they did manage to ge the a/c airborne it would not be taken out by the ADF. they would have to find a rated pilot for what ever a/c they 'scrambled' to go get. I can see it now the wild attack Caribou straining at the leash to engage the rogue 737.? it...??? . . We can only hope it wont happen here.

Same as most GA aircraft don't lock and most twins don't have keys...all parked in an airport with nearly nil security with 3 foot fences! Bound to happen once in a while with the loonies around these days!

A well known local TV station used one of the aircraft on our line to film a nice little piece on "how easy it is to break into an aircraft at (insert local GAAP here)" for their local current affairs prog...thanks for asking us first if you could tamper with it. B@stards.

Not happy Jan.

Maybe this lady was looking for her lawn mower (or some of the other assorted items that live in sheds?)

That would be trespass, CFI.

Has your lawyer spoken to them about it?

Call the federal police CFI, it's a federal offense to interfere with an aircraft. From memory I think it's upto 20 years jail for the perpetrator.

Not only that, but isn't it nice that some helpful current affair program has provided people with information on "how to break into aircraft properly".
