Unhappy qantas cadet scheme - last intake?

My father has spoken to a few of his senior captain friends within the airline and has been told that the cadet scheme has been viewed un-successful with the quality of pilot reviewed a few years after the course and no longer needed due to the airline industry downturn.

It hasnt been formally anounced yet but I wanted to join the program when I finish high school. I think this current intake was the last. What do you think I should do now?

I would like to be an airline pilot but dont think I could handle GA. Any advice appreciated.

If you "can't handle GA" what makes you think you should get an Airline job in front of the thousnds who can and do.

It's like saying "I want to be a surgeon but can't handle Med-school".

I know at your age you may not understand this, but your attitude is offensive to thise of us who have put our heart and sole into Aviation.

If you can't stomach the required steps to your chosen career, chose a different one.

Just another cockly little smart arse. I'm too good for GA, I deserve to go straight into Qantas because daddy knows some senior captains.

Ohh... I'm hurt, shocked and offended by the blatant 'cadet bashing' displayed on this forum. Please refrain for doing this in the future...

Thumbs down

The Hun, your only other option would be the military path, however, the selection process is very tough and they usually can spot someone who is a ****** and reject them. My advice to you, became a bean counter and leave the flying to people that love thier profession regardless of their level of operation.

Hun - If you "can't handle GA" then 1 You don't deserve to be an airline pilot 2 are probably too "precious" to make the grade anyway. Sorry, but that's how it is.

Seems as if QF have realised that the standard of the Space Cadets is not up to the required level to command a 400 tonne aircraft.
