As Mickster said, the FACTS at this stage are that, the pilot was injured, the aircraft damaged, by fire, at Groote.. .. .NOTHING ELSE is known at this stage - lets try no idle speculation or gossip.. .. .One of our clan, and his family / friends, needs our thoughts tonight and for the near future.
Bottums Up
ABC Radio News this morning (25/3) said the aircraft hit a tower, burst into flames and crashed. . .. .Pilot has been transferred to RDH (Royal Darwin Hospital) suffering severe burns.

It difficult to put thoughts into words... It was an especially difficult one to deal with from an ambulance officers point of veiw... he was flown to Darwin hospital ex Groote Is early monday morning in a critical condition with extensive burns... We got a call from the clinic just after it happened... We werent told how it happened.. .. .Sadly aviation looses another one of the good guys. .. .My thoughts go to his family... and his workmates in Darwin, Gove and Groote...

Mate,
I'm sorry.
A man that made friends easily wherever he went, and loved what he was doing.
Never a more selfless and caring man have I ever had the pleasure of knowing.
Everyone will miss you...

On behalf of Darwin ATC I would like to extend my condolences to the family and friends of the pilot involved. We too feel part of the aviation community up here and are saddened by this loss. May he now fly on wings of eagles and look down on us with the thought that he will be missed. Rest in Peace.
