Learmonth restricted areas
Just a quick question to those that are in the know about the military restricted areas around Learmonth.
I am Flying up to Exmouth from Jandakot this Saturday and back on Sunday. This will take me through the multitude of red lines around Learmonth on the ERC charts. Are these usually deactivated on the weekends? If not what is the usual way for VFR aircraft to get in and out of Exmouth?

Read your ERSA, it has all the relevant info in it also check NOTAMs for the area before you leave and request them from flight service as you get closer. I spend quiet a bit of time in that area and find that the airspace is usually available for traffic.
The_Kid,
You shouldn't have any worries with the airspace, Learmonth is active about twice a year!!
I used to work up there for 14 months and it was only active maybe 3 times, usually just for PC 12 training. Obviously check the notams first and try flightservice. If the airspace is active the Learmonth tower will be alive so give them a call and they usually wont have any trouble letting you pass through. When the airspace is active its usually the areas out to the west of YPLM so its never really a hassle. Like i said it isn't active often, i usually have more trouble with the military space north of Lanclin!
Have a good flight, make sure you cruise up the west coast over the reef, its quite spectacular!

short flights long nights
Enjoy your trip. I used to love flying around there. I used to talk to Karatha and Port Headland FSUs, Onslow FSU was just shutting down, they were the days.

Thanks for the info.
Further to this what are the chances of getting avgas in Exmouth on the Saturday or Sunday. I rang the number in my country airstrips guide and ended up with a old fella who cant work out why everyone always rings him for fuel.
Alternativly, I obviously have the choice of getting fuel elsewhere, Carnarvon etc.

Hi The Kid,
I would also be quite interested in passing on the replies to your questions to a friend of mine who himself is considering a ppl/cpl as alternative transport in the Newman-Exmouth-Karatha-Hedland-Broome region.
Best wishes,
rainbow

Exmouth has an Avgas bowser but the fuel is mainly used for company aircraft and is often in short supply. I suggest save yourself the hassle and fill up in Carnarvon. The fuel will probably be a little cheaper too. The only bad thing is, from memory, carnarvon has a callout fee on weekends (around $20). Call mobil carnarnvon before you leave to make sure someone can fill you up.
RE the exmouth number the owner has long since changed address and the phone number in the country airstrip guide has never been changed!!
Another tip, park on the northern apron as the southern is used by Exmouth Air.
