QF "active consideration" ?

QF "active consideration" ?
Hi All,
Having completed two sims and an interview I'm now under "active consideration" for a medical. Can anyone who is, or has been in a similar position share any experiences of what this may mean exactly, and how long I might expect to be in this position?
Also wondering if anyone who has recently completed sim/interview has been called straight away for a medical? Trying to figure out if medicals are possibly being delayed until positions on courses are available.
I imagine experiences will vary widely, but please share any... they will be appreciated.
Thanks.

YMML,
From what I have been told by the QF recruitment staff the system works something like this:
If you do your Sim/Interview and meet what's deemed a minimum requirement but others in the group are deemed more suitable, then you're put into the "active hold" file.
What this now means is that if anyone else in upcoming interviews/sims etc performs to what is perceived as a better standard than yourself then those individuals move on top or get processed directly for a medical and possibly direct entry.. .Ultimately if you do not progress in the file after a certain period then you drop off the list.
Remember - a medical is no guarantee of a job (even if the medical is passed).
A good indicator of imminent employment with QF is when they start to do reference checks by ringing around previous employers/referees etc.
Good luck and happy flying!

YMML, you did 2 sims? Was one of them a repeat or something? Anyway as for the "active consideration" basically you have been pooled together with quite a large number of other people in a group and you would be all ranked according to your scores or rating for all your testing, it just depends and no one can say how long you'll stay on "hold" for, could be 1 month could be a couple of years, could be(hopefully not!) never, but the best bet is just keep sending in those updates, and keep living normally don't hang out for a call from them, email me if you like! good luck!

AoA,. .. .Yep, second sim was a repeat. First one almost a year ago, got the re-apply in 12 months letter and then was called ~9 months later for another sim.. .. .Looks like there's plenty of us waiting... s'pose i'll quietly keep my fingers crossed and enjoy life and the flying I'm doing now.. .. .Thanks for the replies... keep em coming.

As far as waiting time goes from medical to employment - I know of someone that waited two years. Had to renew medical after the two year period then gained employment.. .. .He started with QF about three years ago..so perhaps simply a reflection of recruitment level at the time.

Yea im in the same boat. Went on hold last September and have only had them call me about various bits of paperwork recently. I rang them not long ago and Fiona told me that my call up for a Medical will be due to merit.. .. .I am now settling in for a wait. Sometimes I wish they could just tell you yay or nay cos its like putting your life on 'hold' also.

Rumoured [note that word carefully] immediate a/c purchases may well mean a rapid increase in recruitment. . .. .Good luck!!. .. .G'day

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Not sure if I've been enlightened much but I guess thats the nature of the beast!. .. .If anyone with inside info could find out what courses are coming up (approx pilots/month)or even how many of us might be under consideration I now know of at least a few others who I presume would be as interested as I am! . .. .BTW I would think age vs experience would be just another part of the overall process in determining merit?. .. .G'day Turbofan... you may recall we met at the sim some time ago!

MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE.... .. .Hey YMML! Yeah I recall now. Glad to see you nailed it the second time.. .. .LOL... you seem to be asking nearly as many questions as I did when I got on the hold file... . .. .I think I've got the record for "idiot questions asked about the QF hold file".. .. .You learn to switch off to it after a while and get on with life.. .. .Keep in touch mate.. .. .Turbofan

There has been a DE course starting every 3 weeks since early December, with 12 pilots on each course. They have all gone on to the 747-400 as SOs.. .. .It seems that about half the number in each course (on average) are ex-AN drivers. The employment is incredible - they must have taken up towards 100 pilots since Ansett collapsed.

Not surprised about that Bongo.. .I've heard similar figures.I s'pose they are a bit worried about how they are going to crew everything with what is happening (New 737s, Ansett and Australian Airlines). . .. .Also heard that the Sims are really stretched to capacity and that a lot of new hires are ending up in the states and elsewhere for their sim work.. . . . [ 10 March 2002, 23:55: Message edited by: Bargearse ]
