Unhappy Vale Ansett

Business, economics like nature abhores a vacuum. This will inevitably be filled by the expansion by Virgin or someone else using the carcass of Ansett bought at the ensuing fire sale. Sad as it all is to those directly involved, a glance over the Australian industrial landscape over the past decade reveals a scapheap of once prosperous enterprises. It's called rationalisation or survival of the fittest.

Airlines are not immune and a search of the relevant sites on the Internet reveal that turmoil is worldwide and makes the demise of Ansett look like the closing down of a corner store.

So my commiserations to all effected by this sad debacle. I am sure the administrators tried their darndest to get life back into Ansett. If anyone is to blame it must lie in the ineptide of Air New Zealand Management for not undertaking due diligence when they bought Ansett, but above all to the management of Ansett who over a considerable time have run a sloppy over staffed operation. They failed to make the hard decisions relating to manning levels, productivity and rationalisations of their fleet. The entrails will be turned over for some considerable time but the there will be no second chance in its present form. There is a site somewhere that lists the defunct airlines. The list is a pretty long one. Ansett has just joined many once great airlines on that list.
