Kendell airlines to cut staff by a third
Kendell Airlines hopes to cut staff numbers by up to a third in a redundancy offer which has gone out today.
The downsizing is being described as a return to Kendell's original role as a regional operator.
Before the collapse of Kendell's parent company Ansett, the regional carrier employed almost 1,000 people, but only a quarter of them are working today many on a rotational basis, not full-time.
Kendell Airlines general manager Rob O'Brien says staff have a week to decide on the redundancy offer.
"We don't have a firm figure in mind, at the moment it's only a voluntary scheme," he said.
"Now that we don't have the CRJ regional jet operation, Kendell can be a smaller operation so it'll probably be around 20 to 30 per cent in this round."
Around 300 people worked in the jet operation.
