British Bulldog Branson
I have just returned home from a pleasant evening out with an old BA companion of mine and with £10 extra in my wallet. The ten quid was the product of a bet we waged 12 months ago as to the survival of Virgin Blue, moreover,Richard Branson's survival in Australia.
It reminds me when Branson started VS all those years ago. The "experts" were predicting 6 to 12 months maximum before the BA war machine would sink the fledgling airline. These experts, too, lost a lot of money backing against Branson.
Whilst I concede his timing into the Australian market (Ansett collapse), he cannot be underestimated in his ability to make a success of any business venture he sets his mind to.
Australia can look forward to many years of Virgin Blue and competetive air fares. He relishes the fact also, that he now competes with a company that is 25% owned by his old sparring partner BA.

Moderate, Modest & Mild.
G'day CD, what're YOU doing in this neck of the woods? . .Anyway, welcome (back) - even if it is only a "virtual visit".
Virgin Blue certainly fell on their feet a helluva lot, faster with the demise of Ansett - but not BECAUSE of it, and has baffled many of the "experts" (wishful thinkers, would perhaps be a more apt description) here in PPRuNe Land.
Funny how the wheel turns, isn't it. The latest wagers are based on how long the re-vamped Ansett will last.
BTW, there are the odd one or two ex-SQ'ers with VB, now - all of whom send their regards I'm sure.
Thanks for dropping in. <img src="wink.gif" border="0"> <img src="smile.gif" border="0">
Cheers!
