I dont live in SGN lame but I think there a bit more liberal about Xmas down south. Here in the capital of Workers Paradise (HAN) Xmas isnt oficialy recognised by the commies but I get a lot of "melly clistmuss Shrash!" from the locals.
Havent had Xmas day off ever since I got here nearley 6 years ago. When I bitched they pulled out my contract and asked "what have you written here under RELIGION?"

"Um, NIL."

"Right!"

Didn't realise that it was based in Hanoi now rather than Saigon......

They still play that horrid inspirational music every morning in Hanoi......

Yes, Christmas was quite a big deal in Saigon, well it was in 1992....

Have a good one anyway......

Hey Slasher do you find it funny that after they(the North) spent 3 decades fighting to unite the place that the locals still aren't?

I had a good laugh with a lady Doctor in SGN recently when she referred, somewhat disparagingly, to those 'silly people in the north'. I reminded her of the war they fought to unite the place, she laughed and asked me about Sydney Vs Melbourne. Very astute women, infact wonderful country and wonderful people!

Chuckles.

lame yep they still play that sh!t every bloodey morning but I live on the edge of town. But if on some days the sound carrys, Ill fire up the CD with Slades Momma where all crazee now or ACDCs Highway to Hell at full blast to fight back (and I got monster speakers!).

PS only problem is I might upset Trangs chooks next door and they might not deliver any eggs that day. That p!sses him off a bit.

Chimbu your dead right. As far as I see the north is still waging war on the south. I reckon the countrys screwed, myself.

Slasher,
Politically...absolutely.

Scenically beautifull and after so many years of horrific warfare(my Father was straffing Viet Minh in the 50s and an Uncle was their in the 60's)the people(I've dealt with) seem open, warm and friendly. And I don't JUST mean those that are 'open, warm and friendly' for USD50 and the price of an 'extra' room in the pub BTW like your taste in psycological warfare

Alas this xmass I'll be 'alone' in Singers with the 12 year old off for crissy with her Mum. Mind you I was never one for the typical family xmass anyway....it was always open the pressies at sparrows and head off to the beach very soon afterward. The odd year when we kids were dragged kicking and screaming to a family affair was hell on earth!!!

Chuck.
