Are QANTAS becoming arragant
On Sunday last, I travelled Cooly to Melbourne with QANTAS. Because there were no Economy seats available, I had to go Business Class, my first experiance of this service on domestic routes. My strong impression over the whole flight was that QANTAS were doing me a favour by allowing me to fly with them. I made the mistake of asking if a Business Class ticket gave me access to the QANTAS club lounge.I was told, very firmly, that I had to be a member of The QANTAS Club, my mistake for asking I surpose. The meal served was very ordinary, a dry sandwich, a glass of very indifferant red, and a small piece of cheese. The staff contact left me with the impression that they thought I was lucky to be flying with them.
By contrast, some two months prior, I travelled BN to ML with Virgin, the contrast in the attitude of the staff was out of sight. They appeared happy in their job and happy to have their passengers on board. Maybe they see the need to protect their jobs and QANTAS staff do not. As an aside the QANTAS fare was over four times the Virgin fare, however on Virgin you do have to pay for your sandwich.

Nunc est bibendum
Without diminishing for a minute the experience you had Bonza, have you ever heard of a 'confirmation bias'.
A LOT of PPRUNErs suffer from it and I'm wondering if you are the same!

Free upgrade to business class - LUXURY!!! I dream of an upgrade to business class.
I am about to commence a trip - Riyadh-Dubai-singapore (via columbo) - perth - sydney - all cattle class (that is all i am worth to the company). I would not care what was served if I had the big seat and the ability to stretch the legs.
Feel fortunate as the other option may have been to wait for the next flight.
cheers

Sorry Bonza, but all said with rather a "whinging" tone. From a customer service point of view, you could probably understand what some staff think of "whingers", and why they might get treated that way.
If the shoe fits, then wear it. If it doesn't, then throw it away and accept my apologies.
BTW, your spelling has taken on a marvellous new flavour! Or is this a new language you are inventing?

CSL it was not a free upgrade, I had to pay for it.
proplever, sorry about the spelling, but let me suggest to you that the customer is always right, even when they are wrong. That is accepted in any business that values its future prospects.

Sopwith Pup, Virgin have not yet started their service Cooly/Melb yet. I will travel with them whenever possible. They do not mind if I make a spelling mistake and we need the competition

QANTAS fare 4 times the Virgin fare...
Did you fly economy with Virgin?
If so, of course there's going to be a price discrepancy.
And you flew with them 2 months ago...? A lot's happened in the last 2 months.
Just a thought.

Bonza as I said bad manners are unforgivable, you do have a right to complain and I believe you should do so directly to QF as well.
As far as spelling is concerned, I didn't know that this was a spelling bee!
However you are a little out on your comments on cost. I just had a look at both airlines internet sites and at the end of the day there is not much between the two airlines fares between BNE-MEL. (even though you were at OOL).
You were comparing a Business fare with an Economy fare out of different ports, not exactly apples for apples.

Sopwith Pup, thank you for your comments. I am aware that the price comparison is between QANTAS Business Class and Virgin Economy, however the only beneficial differance between the two services was in the extra seat size. In cabin service Virgin are significantly better,in my opinion. In respect of the food,in QANTAS case the dry sandwich was included in the air fare, on Virgin you have to pay an extra $5.

Two things bonz...
First, did it occur to you that you may well have struck a crew having a bad day. Or maybe even, a bad crew? That doesn't mean that ALL QF cabin crews are bad, or does it?
I'd put it to you that one bad flight does not an airline make.
Secondly, as an airline pilot (unsure if you are, but judging by your post I would guess not), I have seen some very unruly, obnoxious, tiresome, cranky, dimwitted, a*sehole passengers! Unfortunately, the customer is not always right! Long distance flying turns even the nicest person into an animal!
I'd therefore also submit to you that cabin crew do sometimes get crabby with pax, sometimes for good reason. If you say not in your case, then you have the benefit of the doubt.
Personally, I prefer QF. Besides, Virgin is full of '89ers!
Lookout in the bunker - here I come!!!

Unfortunately QANTAS has joined the ranks of other large companies such as Telstra and the Commonwealth Bank. The common thread being that the service sure isn't what it used to be.
