LP, I'm sure the Pruners here would love to know some details of the jobs you are talking about, such as where they are, the living and working conditions (especially for the wives), and how you have been received by the locals, especially your work colleagues. I think if you were honest about these points it may temper some of the enthusiasm being shown on this thread. . .. .As you yourself know, all is not roses working where you are.. .. .Let's keep our feet on the ground, eh?

Totally agree with you Knackered. Le Pilot should come out with the facts of these opportunities on this Forum.. .and . .Two questions for you Le Pilot.. .1.Can you please confirm or deny that you are representing a particular recruitment agency ?. .2. Can you confirm or deny that you are receiving some form of payment for pilots recruited ?. . . . [ 22 March 2002, 11:21: Message edited by: Interceptor ]

Well, it had to happen! Why should we "temper our enthusiasm" Knackered? Just because of the location? The culture? I have been up to Asia many times and have found the locals will treat you as well as you treat them. Just the same as here at home, if you're an a$$hole to someone, probably better not to expect them to be a ray of sunshine to you now is it? Go with an open mind and you will have a great time.. .. .And Interceptor, what business is it of yours? And what relevance does it have? . .. .Nosegear

Ditchdog,. .. .You are not the only person who happens to know who Le Pilot is. I also know him and the question of his integrity was never raised if you read my post. . .I choose to reserve my opinion of people on public forums and do not attack others such as you have attacked me which is indicative of your character.. .Again, if Le Pilot is representing an agency then it should be made known so that all those interested have the facts.. .Let him speak !. .. .Nosegear. .. .The relevance of my questions is that using Prune as a means of free advertising to recruit for an agency would not be viewed in a good light by the owner and moderators of this forum.. . . . [ 23 March 2002, 06:26: Message edited by: Interceptor ]

NoseGear, I agree with you in what you say about Asia. You are correct. But these jobs are in China, and there is a BIG difference, and if LP related his own personal experiences there, truthfully, then it would certainly take the shine off all these seemingly wonderful jobs.. .. .I'm not trying to put a dampener on the enthusiasm show here, but if people dont' get real at the beginning, then they'll find out in the end.

Interceptor, I fail to see how requesting email addresses from interested pilots could be construed as free advertising. Funny thing though, I thought Woomera was the forum moderator?. .. .Knackered, time to break out the atlas old son, last time I checked, China was in Asia. Although if you want to split hairs, I SUPPOSE you could call it "The Orient", or maybe "The Far East" grabs you more? If folks are interested in flying jobs in Asia, do you think the fact that the job maybe in Asia/China makes a difference? And if I was not clear, by Asia I mean Hong Kong/Shenzhen/Beijing etc, which is of course in China/Asia/Far East/Orient/Cathay(which is ancient Chinese for China)....

Well NoseGear "old son", I figured that would be your response but was hoping you'd have more sense. Oh well! I wouldn't know much about Asia having been flying around here for the past twelve years, including the areas in question. Any more you'd like to fill me in on?. .. .You didn't include the one place everyone seems in a rush to go visit. That would be Hainan, An island off the mainland. It is a new airline in the region with a total of two expats flying for them up until recently, both of whom were not well received by the their work colleagues I'm led to believe. Very little English spoken there and direct services to home would be very difficult to come by. Maybe you could get some more info on the place from a certain Orion crew!. .. .With reference to Interceptor's remarks, he is referring I think to the fact that LP is actually acting on behalf of one of the contract pilot agencies recruiting for this region, so is not without self interest in this matter.. .. .The aggressive tone of your post is unwarranted, but typically strine unfortunately. If you don't want advice then excuse me!. . . . [ 23 March 2002, 08:59: Message edited by: knackered ]

Credit where it's due - I guess Le Pilot has raised the hopes of some of our Aussie brethren by teasing them with the opportunities he is responsible (to a large degree) for awarding .. .Certainly full credit to him for advertising the vacancies on this Aussie forum (he didn't mention the 737 slots though - or are they filled, L P?). .And IF there IS a small kickback for him, I don't begrudge him that.. .. .It might well behove the likes of Nose Gear and ditchdog to realise that other members of here, such as knackered and Interceptor just MIGHT hold similar positions to Le Pilot's and might (in both cases have) know a helluva lot more about Asia and others who have worked there (eg. the popular LP), than you boys with your glossy atlases and one-off meetings.. .. .Let's try to avoid following the good ol' Aussie ritual of putting 5h!t on everything we don't think fits our own ideals.. .That's MORE than half the reason Oz aviation is in the pathetic position it's in today.. .. .Oh, and btw, Le Pilot is a 1989 pilot! . . . . [ 23 March 2002, 11:40: Message edited by: Kaptin M ]

Nosegear,. .I agree with your opinion of Asians - generally they will treat you well if you treat them well. I have now spent many years here in Asia and have found that to be the case. However, I think that the point Knackered and others are trying to make, is that in this case it is a little different. We are talking about mainland China here. The local pilots see this as the thin edge of the wedge with LP and co. beginning the invasion. Imagine yourself at home in your old company, the economy picking up, loads increasing - and your company decides to hire foreigners on much higher wages and better conditions to take up the slack. These guys are behaving exactly as you probably would have - they don't like seeing you there. The locals may treat you well, but don't expect your new colleagues to have the same attitude. I think that LP should have been a bit more honest about that to give a more rounded view of the situation, before getting these unemployed PPRUNERs too excited.

I would be there in a second.. .. .I have heard thru my grapevine that chinese aviation has turned the corner and is very hig quality. . .. .May it continue to be so.. .. .Best regards. .. .EWL

G'day Le Pilot and others. LP, not being in a position to act on a "jet" position yet, I was wondering when all of the dust has settled, if you'd mind if I got in contact with you via email, so as I might have more of an idea of what sort of structure that part of the industry holds?. .. .I'd appreciate that agreat deal, and I don't wish to waste your time with a pointless request.. .. .Regards,. .4/J

Le Blokes. .I am in Hainan Airlines and I do hold a minor management position. . .The Agency that employs me is IAC, they do give me a small fee as their Liason Captain but my interest is with my Airline.. .We have 30 more Jet A/C being delivered this year.. .The president of the Airline has asked me to find him more crew. We will need a lot more than the 55 that have passed the IAC interviews.. .Hainan as a major shareholder with the Cambodian Government also intend to commence flying out of Phnom Pehn soon as "Air Cambodia".. .The reason we are showing so much interest in foreign Pilots is because of the requirement for English speakers.. .Air Cambodia is commencing operations with 737-400's. We intend to supplement the operation with our own Dash 8-400's or Dornier 328 Jets within the year if the market dictates it.. .This is the truth, no hidden agenda's.. .By the way...Eastwest Loco we need 2 Dispatchers/Flight Operations/Load controllers for Cambodia. . .email me.

"Let's try a positive post". .. .Hey Ditchy, how's that 737 treatin' ya? . .Don't be too hasty to bag Ditchdog, Interceptor. He's a good bloke and has helped me (and many others) out in the past. He was largely responsible for me getting me my current job, and for that I am indebted.... . .. .Those of you that have availed youselves to my "Employment Study Files" can thank Ditchdog for the research that HE did. All I did was crank up the scanner..... . .. .Last time I saw a post from LePilot he was working at Impulse. Has he bailed since then?. .. .There you go....Another positive post. Keep up the good work LePilot.

Question

Hmm, Phnom Penh - now THERE'S a culture shock for some of our boys who reckon Asia is typified by Hong Kong and Singapore. Ol' Slasher in Viet Nam can probably fill some of you in on the delights to be found along the Mekong - yes it runs through the centre of PP, sometimes literally after heavy rain.. .But a Martini at the end of the day is pretty welcome sometimes .. .Without wanting to dampen anyone's enthusiasm, be aware that TB (tuberculosis) is prevalent in Cambodia - as is HIV/AIDS!! But pirated computer software, Levi jeans, and quality jewellery is cheap! Cambodia is has plentiful supplies of rubies, emeralds, sapphires and diamonds (and hookers)!. .. .A fun place to work (if the money is okay), and an easy place to lose your salary if you're not careful - 38's and 45's are some of the smaller calibre stuff the locals carry!. .. .If you have any health problems that require regular checks and medication, you might want to consider that BEFORE committing yourself to a contract.. .. .What bikkies are you offering, LP?. .Are you employing F/O's as well as captains?. .What's the deal on the accomodation? Is it provided, or is it find your own, and if the latter, what's the standard?. .How about English TV eg. CNN, BBC, etc?
