Night Owl

I as an 89 er have had to work at the sim centre and we were asked , by a rather embarassed previous manager, to sign a form agreeing not to aggravate the heroes, but in all my time there I have only seen a group of sad individuals who really aren't quite sure how to handle the situation of an 89'er within their midst. They seem to be looking for money on the ground or don't actually see you, whereas prior to 89 they would have had no difficulty.
I agree with you that the problems of AN were the doing of inept and plain stupid managers and their unreal MBA's and lack of real life experience.
Incidentally has our current illustrious leader gone permanently on leave, as i believe there is a dearth of personal items within the confines of his office at present?
We can only hope that the centre is actually purchased by someone who realises its potential and that of the committed troops working there and allows the place to get on with what it does best.
It won't take care of many of the ex AN people, burt at least some will be able to survive without going through what we did in 89-90.
To all the AN staff, I do wish you all the best for the future as I know there are a very large number of committed, excellent people out there, with whom we worked, who do not deserve to be treated this way, due to no fault of their own. [/LIST]

As I said back to the original post of "Since AN - Where are you"

I believe that is the class of '01 not '89.

BPH...thanks for bringing the topic back on track. Why is it that every thread relating to AN gets hijacked and turned into an '89 deliberation. Don't get me wrong, I'm not having a go at those who feel passionate about this topic. But please, keep it in a thread designed for those comments.

H dG You asked the question?

I'm Still Flight Deck Qualified but then I left AN 12 yrs ago.

Hope you guys make a go of it but make your decisions for you and your families, no one else. That's how we survived.

Kaptin M:- Thanks for your considered reply, I'll make this my final comment since it appears I've "hi-jacked" the thread and upset some.
"Any other worker"....., that, I feel is an argument of expediency , in that it fitted your (collective) intent wrt your intended course of action. In the 46 years I've been at work, I have never worked 9 - 5, does that make me other than "any other worker"? I'm quite sure I'm not alone.
Not for a minute do I nor, I suspect, you believe that Oz is a land of "equal opportunity" with the right to "speak freely" and be "judged fairly". Whilst I believe that this fair land is, without doubt, the most pleasant on Earth, the people are like anywhere else, just as opportunistic, prejudiced and vindictive towards any who disagree with their view as any others. Or perhaps I'm just too old and cynical! That's not to say there aren't any altruistic individuals left, just that I rarely seem to meet any. I look forward to crossing swords again in another thread soon!
EMU 1: Who's been snooping about in the front office, then? I assume you mean YOUR "illustrious leader", mine is still in residence. He of whom you speak, if we are of like mind, still makes the odd appearance.
Unlike most, I still hold the increasingly forlorn hope that the sim centre will remain as part of the reborn airline. I believe that thereby lies our best hope of survival, that to fragment the remains of AN Mk2 and sell us off to whomever would sound the death knell for the centre. I believe we should be an indivisible part of a structured unit, in existence to support the unit as a whole, the way we have done since I joined the company. If we are to be sold off as a profit-making exercise, I believe the heart and pride of the centre will disappear slowly but inevitably. Mind you, I'm not sure that's how the two Marks see us, so I'll have to wait and see.

Kind regards, "back to the top" as BPH said, and my apologies for the hi-jack.

Rumour has it that QF have employed AN 767 pilots on a contract basis. Maybe Keg or one of the other QF guys can enlighten us on this rumour. I am told these contract pilots wear the QF uniform, but are restricted to operations within Australia. Does this say something for future recruitment within QF that you must be type rated before employment?

If this is the case, I wonder how currently employed full-time pilots feel about contractors moving into command roles. Also, the future where full-time employees are rostered for work alongside contractors. Are the AIPA and/or other pilot unions/groups concerned about this move? And, for that matter what have the 89ers (KaptinM) got to say about it?

Also, heard that NJS have employed AN (BAE-146 endorsed tech crews) as Capt’s and FO’s and some KD pilots (not CRJ rated) as BAE-146 FO’s.

Red face

Rats, I've been sucked in again!

TNO...I have to agree with you. I haven't worked 9-5 since '85. Lots of other staff were affected by this matter and, sure, not to the extent that would espouse vitriol in such volume. However, I liken it to the hate generated in the Balkans or even the IRA. When will it stop? Will it be passed down to the children or will it end with the affected generation? There has to be a time to move on, I doubt it will be soon, or that all the combatants will start singing around a camp fire, but to carry such hate for so long can only hurt yourself in the long run. If AN doesn't get back up, will that fix the problem?
