Post How to fly in Oz?

Hi Ozlanders, . .. .I am am a Brit about to begin training and am looking at doing so in South Africa. My question is; what licence do you need to fly in Oz? Could I do so on a South African licence?. .. .Could you also give me a clue as to the job prospects in your lovely country? Are they as bad as every where else?. .. .Cheers guys.

Why can't you train in England? I don't mean to pry into your own business but are you just leaving to do the training? Maybe it's just too expensive to get the JAA licence.. .. .Wouldn't it be nice to learn to fly then work in a country that has such a laid back lifestyle and such nice people, the suns always shinning, everyone's smiling. Just like the holiday brochures said it........

If you are interested in flying here in the future, have you thought about doing your training here instead of South Africa?

YL your obviousley thinkin of cutting your training costs given the cheap exch rate of the SAR. Bloodey good idea Quids to Rand (about 10 to 1?). But youd need to convert your SA ATP to another more useful one. Quite a few Seth Efrikans I know obtained an FAA ticket which was easier to convert to others than direct from a home-grown one. I dont know about Oz requirements but CFI should be able to help you on that one. ICAO states Air Law, flight and IR tests depending on your experience and licence-type.
