Ansett - Administrator Surrenders Aircraft Leases
The Melbourne Age Published Today the 29th September 2001, Business and Money Section, Page 2. An article written by Leonie Wood. I quote in part from that article as follows :-
"In reality, Ansett as we know it, will never fly again. Already the Administrators have surrendered leases over 52 Aircraft."
This article whilst not unexpected leads me to ask, which aircraft are still being retained/leased by the Administrators? And what is likely to be the outcome for their intention to sell he "Regionals"?

52 aeroplanes rpt???
That is damned near the entire fleet isnt it?
I was led to belive that some of the leases were to run out about now.
Any details on which aeroplanes are affected??

EWL I do not know which have been surrendered.
But as an agreement could not be executed with Virgin I think the 737-300 fleet could have been surrendered, and on the sums I have been doing I would also suspect the 12- CRJ'S I think this adds up to 36. Also I suspect the 767 fleet some of which has recently be sold to GECAS and some recently leased in from elsewhere may have also been surrendered. However I think your guess would be as good as mine. I would be interested to know if the Kendell and Hazelton Fleets of SAAB and Metro 23 fleets are intact. Then perhaps the Aerpelican and Skywest Fleets will also be intact, then they could easily sell the Regional Airlines services together or seperately. I do not know about the pax or freight 146's? Might need to rub the crystal ball.

The 146's would have to look pretty doubtful, as too the early 767's.
They might retain the owned 767's for freight and high demand morning and evening east coast operations.
There is also speculation that the 300's may also stay.
As far as the 737's are concerned, I would think they will all go. (Same costs as the A320 but 30 seats less)
The interesting bit is the depressed market for aircraft at the moment.
Who knows, the lessors may allow some of the aircraft to remain in Australia.

The CRJ's are definately going. With it, a sad chapter in Kendells history. KD will go back to what they do best, and run it from WGA.
I thought RMO, RMM were ex Britannia, therefore, who would buy ANYTHING ex Britannia!!!

I hope what you say is true, but if -HYE is owned by SALE, then why was it used on Saturday on the opening MEL-SYD service?
Your info sounds about right though.
Shouldn't AN have used its owned aircraft?

The Ansett Administrators recovered $10,000,000 from debtors to give them some start up capital.
Lease payments were due last Wednesday. I suggest that they may have paid the leases for the Aircraft they intend to use and surrendered the others and perhaps also discussed with the leasing companies to suspend the payment schedules during the period so they could further evaluate the situation. Also remember that the Administrators have many staff working at the Ansett head office as well as other insolvency practitioners have been contracted to perform the administrators tasks in subsididary entities.

What about the five BAe146-200s that are sitting on the ground in Perth, the VH-JJ*s (All ex AN-WA). They have been around since the early - mid 1980's and should have paid for themselves several times over. Who belong em'?

I too have not heard of any lessor initiating the return of leased aircraft.(Monday evening)
One would think they would act in the near future - unless the administrator has plans we do not know about?

I heard on Friday morning from the mouth of Mr Graeme McMahon. He told a gathering of about 150 AN pilots that he had just been notified earlier that morning!
Still doesn't prove anything though.
