A Sad Day for PPRuNe - Pop Up Adverts
Gents - please think again about putting these awful pop-ups on this revered site. And if your conscience doesn't run that far then please stop them popping back up every few seconds. It really is tacky
|
Intersting observation - but I'm not getting any of pop-ups on my screen. Anything to do with the server one uses to log in with?
|
But I guess it pays towards keeping it free for everyone...
|
Very Very annoying.... is their a way of getting rid of it..
|
OK, got it: these are not pop-up ads but banners and thus less intrusive.
I would agree that displaying an ad about an issue as contentious and intransparent as the IFALPA ban on CX (in one Fragrant Harbour thread there is a union member admitting he doesn't understand what the whole issue is about.....) is less than fortunate. |
I would like to inform the pop-up advertisers that the irritation these pop-ups cause me is such that I will go out of my way NOT to buy the product concerned.
I appreciate however the requirement to finance pPRuNE. Sad Sad Day :( |
Keep getting a pop up for a mobile phone which keeps coming back no matter what I do. Really annoying.
|
FREE!!
Go here and look at POP-UP STOPPER ...it's free and it works. Captain Underpants to the rescue! |
i agree with bally heck, very annoying, avoid buying:mad:
bought to you by the new airbus 340-600 |
I also keep getting a pop-up advert for a mobile phone or phone company - not sure which as I haven't bothered to read it. Nor will I ever read any pop-up adverts but will, in fact, make a conscious attempt not to buy anything shoved in front of my face in this manner. Please rethink this idea - the headline banners are one thing, these wretched pop-ups are something else!
|
MAYDAY.......MAYDAY........MADAY
AAAAAAARGH KILL KILL KILL KILL. I HATE POP UPS........THEY INSTANTLY PUT ME OFF ANY PRODUCT THEY ARE TRYING TO PROMOTE AND ALSO THE SITE ITSELF. GET RID....GET RID......GET RID. WORSE THAN DOOR TO DOOR SALESMEN. KILL.......KILL....KILL |
Cancel mayday......cancel mayday.
I have just installed Pop-up Stopper. Thank you to Cpt Underpants for saving my life. |
You're welcome. Now only if I could get rid of another virus (411A) just as easily...
|
Errr... I do not allow pop-adverts on PPRuNe!
Are you sure it is from the PPRuNe web page that you are getting them? Are you using AOL or one of the 'nanny' ISP's to log on with? They sometimes force you to keep one of their windows open and who knows what they do in the background. I use one advertising company for some banners but I definitely do not allow them to submit pop-ups. I detest pop-ups as much as the next person. I have never seen a pop-up ad whilst using PPRuNe and it would appear that only some of you are getting them which leads me to suspect that it is some other window you have open (although possibly reduced in size) that is causing you the grief. Investigation continues. |
Whooooooeeeeeeeeeeeee, well done Cpt. Underpants, no more pain with mobile phone or any other pop ups. Pop ups, your days are numbered:D
I am using AOL and once I logged out and back in again the damn thing came back to haunt me - Doh! |
Danny, it's definitely a PPRuNe-related O2 (mobile phone) popup. Keeps appearing all the time :( :(
(I only have one IE window open - and I'm not connecting through an ISP) |
So annoying!
Logged on yesterday - no problems Logged on this morning. Same connection etc. - pop-ups appearing constantly. The pop up window is titled www.pprune........thread=id....or forum=id.. In other words it is using the web page URL from PPRuNe. Definetely a problem with PPRuNe. |
Pop-ups from O2 still def here this AM - I can hear my Pop-Up Stopper as previously recommended stomping away on them.
It's great! :D |
For your info Capt I too am getting the same mobile phone pop-up (O2). First time ever on pprune, must be something to do with your site as we all seem to be getting the same.
|
Me too. And I'm fed up of being told that someone is cutting their toenails!!
|
I kept getting the same mobile phone pop-up as everyone else.
Definitely a pprune based issue! Fortunately, the well-advised "Pop Up Stopper" freeware is keeping unwanted windows at bay! |
I'm getting it too, and it's definitely the only window open... Until the pop-up is running, of course (and it doen't stay running for long, obviously).
It amazes me that the companies paying for them find it cost effective, as I'm very strongly in the camp of those who would never ever buy anything from them. I try to avoid visiting the damn site even. |
Pop-ups
Yep, even here via BTOpenworld ADSL. Its definately hanging off PPRUNE threads.
Bah..off to install the freeware. |
The only window I have open at the moment is Pprune, I'm accessing the internet through the company LAN, and this bl***y pop-up advert for free text messages or whatever comes up every few seconds. I'm going to try the pop-up stopper download, if that doesn't work I won't be back. Don't mind banner ads, hate pop-ups!!!
|
Interesting. I haven't had a single pop up from pprune. Only adverts are in the banners.
|
The freeware worked!!!!! It's merrily flashing away in the system tray at the bottom of the screen - I disabled the sound to avoid irritating the rest of the office!:) :)
|
Well, it wasn't there on the 22nd. and it has appeared today - every time I try to read a thread. It also appeared when I decided to write this. Like many others, PPrune is my home page - it's the first thing I want to read when I log on! As nothing else was opened when I logged on at 07.40 this morning and the dreaded O2 popup appeared, it is either coming from the Freeserve ISP or PPrune. From what everybody else has said it looks like it is PPrune and this annoyance it not helping Danny to keep the books straight.
Thanks Capt. Underpants, I shall be installing your recommendation shortly! |
It's definitely coming from PPRuNe, Danny. It pops up every time you change pages (and not otherwise) and has as the window title the URL of whatever PPRuNe page you selected.
|
Yep, having the same problem, must be prune as i'm with bt openworld.
|
Excellent tip - pop-ups gone. Thanks for that.
|
These popups drive me mad, and maybe even drive me off PPrune!
PLEASE REMOVE?:( :( |
Looking into the source code of the popup it comes from oz.valueclick.com.
Looking at the javascript within the pprune page you also have references to //--></SCRIPT> <SCRIPT LANGUAGE=Javascript src="http://oz.valueclick.com/jsmaster"></SCRIPT> <SCRIPT LANGUAGE=JavaScript><!-- if (ValueLoaded) ValueShowAd(); //--></SCRIPT> <NOSCRIPT> So it looks as if it is being kicked off by pprune somewhere down the line Martin |
Bloody annoying.
|
For Capt. Pprune's info, I am using plain old MS Internet Explorer 6.0 and was subjected to a mobile phone pop-up ad on every pprune page I selected. They are still trying to attack me but Pop-up stopper as recommended by Cpt underpants has stopped them. First started happening when I logged in this morning (circa 0530Z)
|
Yep, every page change generates one.
The stopper did not work for me (locked down company machine). Hope they stop soon. |
It's coming up on my screen to it's for O2 mobile phones - exceedingly annoying - may stop accessing PPRUNE if this continues...
|
Mobile adverts?
Is anybody else getting constant adverts for mobile phones each time you change a page on the forums? It is driving me crazy!! How do I turn them off??
If this is a new part of Pprune, I don't like it. Point 4 |
Yes, have it too and it is maddening. Send up some Tornado F2s and some F-15s to take 'em out!
|
Get rid of those bloody irritating adverts for O2. PLEASE!!!!
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
120.4, 'minimize them and it seems to keep them at bay - but I'm no IT expert. What a sad pain they are!
Cheers, mcdhu |
