A Sad Day for PPRuNe - Pop Up Adverts

Gents - please think again about putting these awful pop-ups on this revered site. And if your conscience doesn't run that far then please stop them popping back up every few seconds. It really is tacky

Intersting observation - but I'm not getting any of pop-ups on my screen. Anything to do with the server one uses to log in with?

But I guess it pays towards keeping it free for everyone...

OK, got it: these are not pop-up ads but banners and thus less intrusive.

I would agree that displaying an ad about an issue as contentious and intransparent as the IFALPA ban on CX (in one Fragrant Harbour thread there is a union member admitting he doesn't understand what the whole issue is about.....) is less than fortunate.

I would like to inform the pop-up advertisers that the irritation these pop-ups cause me is such that I will go out of my way NOT to buy the product concerned.

I appreciate however the requirement to finance pPRuNE.

Sad Sad Day

I also keep getting a pop-up advert for a mobile phone or phone company - not sure which as I haven't bothered to read it. Nor will I ever read any pop-up adverts but will, in fact, make a conscious attempt not to buy anything shoved in front of my face in this manner. Please rethink this idea - the headline banners are one thing, these wretched pop-ups are something else!

You're welcome. Now only if I could get rid of another virus (411A) just as easily...

Question

Errr... I do not allow pop-adverts on PPRuNe!

Are you sure it is from the PPRuNe web page that you are getting them? Are you using AOL or one of the 'nanny' ISP's to log on with? They sometimes force you to keep one of their windows open and who knows what they do in the background.

I use one advertising company for some banners but I definitely do not allow them to submit pop-ups. I detest pop-ups as much as the next person. I have never seen a pop-up ad whilst using PPRuNe and it would appear that only some of you are getting them which leads me to suspect that it is some other window you have open (although possibly reduced in size) that is causing you the grief.

Investigation continues.

Danny, it's definitely a PPRuNe-related O2 (mobile phone) popup. Keeps appearing all the time

(I only have one IE window open - and I'm not connecting through an ISP)

So annoying!

Logged on yesterday - no problems
Logged on this morning. Same connection etc. - pop-ups appearing constantly.

The pop up window is titled www.pprune........thread=id....or forum=id..

In other words it is using the web page URL from PPRuNe.

Definetely a problem with PPRuNe.

For your info Capt I too am getting the same mobile phone pop-up (O2). First time ever on pprune, must be something to do with your site as we all seem to be getting the same.
