Excel 97 hangs

Hoping for one of the experts to come straight up with a help link here! I have searched the MS tech database and one or two other help forums.

W98 SE: I have 2 profiles on my machine, mine and 'the boss'. I installed Visual Basic 6 via my profile. It ran ok. Susequently, Excel hangs on open and freezes all but the mouse, requiring reboot. I removed VB6, then reinstalled W98, no change. I have also uninstalled and re-installed MS Office Pro.

The WEIRD thing is that Excel runs just fine inside my wife's 'profile'! This defeats me! I wonder if there is a problem in the tie-up between the Excel VB functions and VB6? Do I need to do a registry hack to remove all traces of VB6?

Any help appreciated.

Not an answer, but you could register and ask the question here.

Thanks for that ORAC, I've looked at the site - very useful, but as it happens I think I have 'cracked it', if it is of use to anyone else.
In my Windows directory there was a file '***.xlb', *** being my profile name. There was NO file like that for my wife's profile. I deleted this file and it 'reformed' under the same name, and all is now ok. The programme was obviously loading that file in my profile but not in hers and it was presumably corrupted.

Looks good. Also, as FYI, if you have Office Pro, I think you have a few tech support sessions coming. I have had 4 the last few years with Office 2000, one a call, and the others by e-mail, and so far they have not charged me.

One was a problem with Word crashing, and they had me delete similar personal profile information. Took care of it.
