Post Cursed Cursor

After an OS reload and a bit of RAM added, the text cursor in my Office and all other word processing programs has gone a lighter colour than it originally was (very light grey now).

How can I alter the colour of the text cursor (note: not the mouse cursor) to a darker and easier to see shade?

W98 OS

Offfice 2000, Wordpad, Outlook, etc

Unhappy

I'm bringing it back to the top for one more shot. This little black duck is getting desperate. The cursor is so hard to see that you can easily lose its place when editing text etc. Even my kids have trouble seeing it when doing H/work assignments.

There does not seem to be a setting to adjust for this problem or it is well hidden.

Even another helpsite referral would be a start.

Still thinkin' about it as I do the chores but, as a start, don't I recall that the Office 2000 Installation Disk has quite a section on cursors? Try putting the disk in and doing a partial re-installation.

Try changing your default colour scheme.

Try the Accessability settings in Control Panel and increase the cursor width and blink rate.

Fobotcso: The colour of the cursor is the same in the windows wordpad and notepad applications as well; I am suspecting it is something more like a windows OS setting. I’ll check out the CD though.

Orac: I went to Display Properties/Appearance and had a play with the scheme items.
The cursor colour seems to be tied in with the ‘Application Background’ setting. If I choose a white background, the cursor changes to black.
When I choose a light grey background, the cursor changes to a similar colour making it hard to see.
I prefer the light grey as a background but I may have to revert to the white background and adjust brightness settings to make it easier on the eyes.

I’ll keep playing with the display settings for a bit.
One of my changes with the accessibility settings has made the text a bolder display but the text cursor is still the same.

If you are using accessibility options and have reloaded Win 98, there is a bug detailed here that may help.
I also remember lots of problems about changing colour schemes interacting with certain applications, can you go back to the default colour scheme?

Thumbs up

I have twiddled with colour schemes and settings and if I revert to the standard boring old schemes the easy to see text cursor appears.
I will be changing item settings one at a time until I get to my prefered colour scheme. If the cursor changes I might have a better chance of seeing what causes it (time permitting). Very tedious.

stickyb: Checked out that bug thingy and the dll, Oleacc.dll, was not in my Version Conflict Manager. Is that a problem or should I get the dll from somewhere and install it.

Thanks for your input people!

Also, after you reloaded Windows, did you update with all the latest fixes - there are some in there about colour schemes

Use Windows Update
