Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.1

W98, Office 2000, Acrobat Reader 5.1

How can I convert a Word doc to read in Acrobat, I've tried changing the extension to pdf but no joy. My version of Acrobat came on a free disc.

Thanks

You need Acrobat itself - currently version 5.0 - the reader only lets you view pdf files.

There are other progs apart from Acrobat, which in itself does not come cheap. As with everything yous gets what yous pay for..so quality of output differs with alternative progs.

If you do not wish to purchase the program Adobe has an online pdf converting facility here - first five conversion are free...! You may have to pretend you're in the US or Canada though (but you might be there already...).

Roach, I use Pdffactory pro. Works well, easy to use. Basically its a printer driver which instead of printing, saves your document as a pdf file.

Get it here.

Hope this helps.

If you are in the UK then for approx the same price as PDFFactory Pro you can get Serif PagePlus 8 PDF. A non too expensive DTP that will also output pdf.

There are a whole lot of pdf creation programs out there on the web (google for [freeware pdf (writer OR printer)].

Prices range from $30 to $100 or so, but all cheaper than Acrobat's very expensive Distiller. Easiest (and least flexible) are those that just install as a printer driver.

I hear good things about pdf995 from http://www.pdf995.com/ and at $9.95 for the plain printer driver it's hard to beat the price.

I use an old freebie Adobe PDFwriter printer driver that came with some Adobe Lite software that came with a scanner that works well enough so I haven't tried it.

[And there's Ghostscript if you want to go that route]
