Please can someone explain why, when I try to post these two images, one produces the picture

and the other remains a link?

Both come from the same web page and the address is correct because the link works.

In many servers/ISPs one has to be very careful with case when you type the URL. UNIX/Linux systems that I know about distinguish between upper and lower case. A very large proportion of web servers run UNIX/Linux.
I keep forgetting this and have trouble from time to time.

BB cannot parse the ampersand (&), so you need to change it to the CHR code, prefixed by %.
So that link should be:
.....grosset.co.uk/Travel%20Writing/Australia/images/must-%26cattle3.JPG
(I had to change the first bit to dots so I could display the text and not the picture)
