Arrow Anyone had problems with DirectX 9?

Specifically IL2 Sturmovik dropping out to the desktop, something that NEVER happened before.

And how the hell do I uninstall it? (DX9) - you can't from the uninstall programmes list and if I try and reapply a prevous version (e.g. 8.1) the installer just sees the newer version and doesn't do owt.

*sigh*

Athlon 1800, Win XP SP1, 512DDR, GeForce4MX 440, NVidia Detonator v41.09

Spin,

I'm pretty sure you can't uninstall DirectX. You have to reinstall Windows to get the old version back.

I believe there is a third party untillity that enables you to delete directx,.
A lot of people seem to have trouble with early releases of directx, I tend to wait a while now before upgrading to the new version, I cannot recal what its called or where I got it, but I will make some enquires.

Here yer go SSS got this reply to my question already.

There is a little tool(-let) out there called DirectX Buster. One can
download it for free, so your excellency does not have to cut down on is purchases of rare wines and ports.

One could search the 'net for it. The name of the .exe to be downloaded is: 'dxb21b4e.exe'. Though one is not sure this is the latest version.

Thanks all. TD - also found this link specifically for DirectX9 uninstallation - if you ever need it. This also requires your original XP/2K CD to put DirectX8 back on your system.

Eek! Read the approved way of removing DirectX:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;179113

Also read link number 310405

Basically, have Win XP? Use System Restore in Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools.
