Capturing Streaming Video off a WebSite

I've been asked by some family members to save some segments of streaming video off an NTSB crash report. Its ".ram" file indicates that it's on an rtsp:// server (streaming video server I'd imagine) - and it's in a .smi format.

I've successfully saved and edited video files before (off the net and from a VCR) but not streaming video off a web-site. I assume that you cannot do it without a video capture card. I have a Rainbow Runner on an old Win 98SE computer but I'm not really sure what application would work with that.

Does anybody know whether the commercial versions of Realplayer, Quicktime or the Windows Movie Player have a "save" option?

Any other recommended commercial or shareware programs that might do the job?

Anybody aware of a "how to" website that might have useful guidance and directions?

I'm not sure whether it works with Realtime or not, but I have captured other streaming video using Camtasia.

I think Frontcam does it too. FrontCam has a demo version http://www.frontcam.com/fcsetup.exe which I think would work OK - but you'd need to check that it's not disabled in some way.

There is a demo version of Camtasia which I think would also work fine. Its available at http://www.techsmith.com/freetrials.asp

Its fully functional for 30 days - which should do the trick for you.

I tried to do that once. I found a program called Streambox, which did do what you ask. It was illegal though ( some lawsuit or something by real player ). Now Streambox make other types of software. I couldn't get it to work, but if you find it somewhere, it might work for you.

Streambox VCR was banned by the courts in this ruling:

Although Streambox ripper wasn't.

You can get Streambox VCR here:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/au...eambox_vcr.cfm

Although you may not (of course) download it etc.
