Unable to Save Scanned Files

We have a MacBook Air (mid 2013) that was updated to macOS Big Sur 11.7.10 last year. Our scanner is an Epson ET-2750 bought in late 2021. All worked until the update to 11.7.10. Now when scanning the scanner operates and we are then advised "Scanning Complete" which offers the usual options of add a page, edit, cancel or save the scan but after clicking on SAVE a window opens advising "Unable to Save Scanned Files", with the usual useless "OK" link. On clicking OK the window disappears, as in cancelled, and we are left with the opening Epson Scan 2 window again, ready to do another scan. So the scanner scans but files cannot be saved to the computer.

Both Apple and Epson "support" are of little help. A thread on Apple Support Community by another owner of a MacBook Air (mid 2013) indicates it is a problem with some application permissions being cancelled by the 11.7.10 upgrade but does not provide an answer.

We will appreciate some suggestions on how to get the scans saved. Thanks.

Do you know where it would normally save the scanned files to?

...and are you able to set it to save them somewhere else?

2021? An antique! How could you expect it to work with the latest ... sorry. This is the wonder of finger pointing suppliers.

In looking at the Epson support there are supposed to be drivers from macOS 10.x - macOS 14.x and the latest 11.x was issued on March 21, 2024.

There wasn't mention if you had tried that driver. Does macOS automatically download the latest drivers for all installed peripherals?

See https://epson.com/Support/Printers/A...ter=macOS+11.x for the above mentioned files.

If it's more or less the same as on my version of Epson Scan 2, you can set a folder to save to at the bottom of the dialog and you need to do this before you start scanning. If that is still set to a folder from a previous scanning session that has since been removed, you could get this behaviour. The dialog you mention to add a page and such is not one I recognise... but I use a bit of a strange scanner so it may be because of that.

If it is an application permission thing, you should have seen a dialog pop up the first time you tried scanning something since your update, asking you whether the app was allowed to access 'Documents' or something like that. To check if that's the problem, go to your settings, Privacy & Security, Files and Folders and see if Epson Scan 2 is allowed to access 'documents'. I am on a newer MacOS version so your settings windows might be slightly different.
