Need a file from FSX setup DVD
I've just bought a new Laptop and was hoping to setup Flight Sim X (FSX) on it from the original DVDs. Unfortunately the new laptop doesn't have a DVD player and my USB DVD writer won't read one of the files on DVD 1 so I can't install the program or copy the file onto a USB memory stick. I've copied every other file off both discs to a stick with no problems! The DVD is a little scratched and I've tried the toothpaste repair to no avail...
I wondered if anybody else has the original DVDs and might be able to copy D1Feat~4.cab from disc 1 via One Drive or another route please?
I would like to get a copy of FS 2020 but reading the hardware requirements, I don't think the new machine is going to be able to cope...

Do a search for FSX DVD ISO images - you should be able to find one somewhere online. Assuming you have a valid licence key you should be good to go.

Thanks chaps - David, that's brilliant, thank you. I can't reply to your PM with a link (think you need to make 10 posts!), is it OK if I email to your ozaeros address?

Treadi, I’m running FS2020 at the moment on an i7 6800 with 32mb of ram and a pair of ASUs GT970 oc strik cards Sli’d and it runs it with a high end graphics wise reasonably well, lower settings are fine, Though I have a RTX 3080 ASUS Tuf OC on order from release day.

Thank you so much David!
Nutty, pretty sure this heap is well under the minimum specified by MS - not that I understand much of it...

Having read through this thread could I ask for advice about how to install FS X when the DVD player on my desktop doesn't play video images. I have original disks for the program but the DVD won't autorun the installation. I am concerned about downloading dodgy software from the internet after asking the question on the well known search engine. My level of computer knowledge would be categorised fair.

Thanks it I have tried that. The problem seems to be that the DVD Drive oenophile play video. It will play CDs and I can copy and paste files but it won’t install the FS files.

It would be easiest and betterrt to buy a copy of the FS program on Steam. The Steam version is cheap and has had a lot of minor fixes and especially graphic improvemets.
If you keep trying to install the original discs you will still have problems in getting it to authenticate.
It is well worth doing this as FSX still has a lot more than MSFS especially in the way of fairly realistic airliners.
It is not a bad idea though to have a go installing the new one too. MSFS is available on the XBOX game pass and as this costs only one dollar or pound for the first month and about $4 a month after and can be stopped at any time is worth a look and is less hardware intensive that you may think....at the moment though it is outstanding for GA aircraft but not for airliners.

Thanks harry, my son recommended Steam so I might have to go down that path. I still have the old fashioned attitude that if I paid for it once I shouldn't have to pay for it again but thats why my kids have developed an eye roll that is very expressive.

I ran in to a further problem with copying the files onto a new DVD - there seems to be a major issue with Windows 10 and DVD writing - I can read CDs/DVDs and I can write CDs but not DVDs. I keep being told to insert a blank disk into the writer. Tried all the fixes out there in Internetland to no avail.
Anyhoo, eventually I did find ISO files for both disks online as suggested by Saab Dastard and downloaded them which was a very slow process but installation was no problem and I authenticated it with my original purchase serial number.
