Expanding network problems

Hi all if any one answer this thank you in advance.

I am using a sky q hub box so only got 2 Ethernet ports with one connected to sky q box and one going to main pc. I am trying to add another pc so I have tried two separate switches one from to-link the other Netgear and have the some problem on both. Whilst using switch internet connection on main pc is always strong and constant but connection to second pc will connect to second pc for about 30 seconds then cut out over and over again. Connection will identify come up with network name then cut out. One of the switch’s is brand new and I have connection on both pcs when connection is direct to one and have tried all cables direct so they all work. Have also tried setting static ip.

if any one could help me would be great really at a loss. Thank you again

For a slightly different but similar issue, I just use a TP link ethernet splitter. Less than £10 on the jungle river.

You might have a network loop. If the network loops eventually a packet will come along and circulate forever filling up the network with traffic. For example your PC could be connecting to both Ethernet and Wireless and bridging could be enabled on the PC.

Described here:-

To get help on something like this you will really need to provide a network diagram and details of the equipment models in use. I have attached a sample diagram - NOT directly related to your network. A home router (usually) contains three separate traffic passsing functions and it can be critical to recognise that when troubleshooting these issues.

You haven't said how you have connected the switch - ideally should be router - switch - everything else connected to switch. Also switch and router may have certain ports dedicated to connect to modem/router etc only. If the switch is in between one PC and the other, it probably won't work.
Also not sure how the Sky Q router handles DHCP as WiFi wise I believe they act as a mesh network (if you have the second box or more) , know of people who've had issues trying to mix and match other wireless APs with Sky Q ones.

So just to be sure, you have the router, then the switch, then the devices all connected to the switch? If not, connect it this way first, making sure there is only one connection from router to switch.

Next, is it always the same PC that drops off? Can you swap the Ethernet cables from the working PC to the other to see if this resolves it? It could be a faulty Ethernet cable or network card.

I'd make everything DHCP to start to ensure the router is issuing IP's.

Ensure you do not have more than one DHCP server running, and ensure you only have one cable to your switch from your router to avoid loops.
