PHISHING warning BT

Bit of a heads up for users of BT internet and mail services.

I got an extremely realistic email from BT asking me to log in to activate my new BT Plus service, which I have just signed up to when I noticed the account number, just the last four digits shown in samll print was not mine. I checked with BT and they said it is definitely a phishing scam and a very realistic one.
So if you use BTinternet or BT mail be very wary of any communication purporting to be from BT and check with them before responding

Suggestion- there exists a site run by a microsoft type in Oz that has gathered up info and data on sites around the world that have been breached. And one can easily find out IF their email address has been found on various ' dark' sites. What happens is that if a legitimate site you may have visited was breached, and ylur email address and pasword to that site was hacked- then your email address gets passed around.

Who is behind Have I Been Pwned (HIBP)

I'm Troy Hunt, a Microsoft Regional Director and Most Valuable Professional awardee for Developer Security, blogger at troyhunt.com, international speaker on web security and the author of many top-rating security courses for web developers on Pluralsight.I created HIBP as a free resource for anyone to quickly assess if they may have been put at risk due to an online account of theirs having been compromised or "pwned" in a data breach. I wanted to keep it dead simple to use and entirely free so that it could be of maximum benefit to the community.Short of the odd donation, all costs for building, running and keeping the service currently come directly out of my own pocket. Fortunately, today's modern cloud services like Microsoft Azure make it possible to do this without breaking the bank!
