embedded video filetype?

Is there an easy way to find out the filetypes of videos embedded in webpages?

I ask as there is a problem with out of date flash players on Linux with Firefox browser operating systems. For about a couple of weeks many video files are reluctant to play and no updated versions are available for download/install. If I could find out what the filetypes are I could change the settings to use the VLC player. Websites that have videos I can't play include youtube and pprune, amongst others.

Ta,

rans6andrew. Which version of FF are you using? See my posts below. I have suspicions that FF 39.0. is a possible 'culprit' here.

If you right-click the vid you get a menu. Copy the video url and paste it in a new tab, this will take you to the youtube and may play better.

The menu also shows the player version. Check whether a later version is available to you.

(I'm not an expert, mixture will be along in two shakes of a gnat's whatsit)

I have FF 39 on my PCs, Win 7 Pro, and have no problems with YT videos.

SD, perhaps I misunderstood the OPs' original query. I can view Youtube vids directly, no trouble. It's the links to Youtube, such as in PPrune, that is giving me hassle.

I just see a blank space. Certainly I can right click etc to view. I just thought the original query by rans6 had something in common to my issue. It did start with the latest FF upgrade.

Sorry about the posting in multiple threads.

I've got no problems with the links either.

I'm still on FF 38 here, I have not checked for any later version options for Linux Mint Rebecca. As it was working before and not now, with flash reported as the culprit, I am hesitant to start upgrading FF unless it is to be the proven fix.
