Question Sound stopped on laptop after resume from sleep

I have a brand new laptop that whenever I wake it up from sleep, the sound stops working. Reboot, sound is fine. Sleep/resume, sound stops working. If I go to "Sound" in the control panel while mp3s are playing, I can see the meter moving. There just isn't any sound coming out of my laptop speakers.

Realtek audio, latest drivers. Volume has not been muted due to use of FN keys. System tray audio mixer has the same volume level that worked well before I put the laptop to sleep. Restored the system restore point and nothing changed. I'm stumped.

You can get that effect if you switch to Digital Output Only in the Custom tab of the playback device properties.

Sometimes toggling that checkbox brings the sound back to life.

Also, check the levels while you are in there - I've seen the main volume slider at 100, but individual channels at 0 (albeit in a 5.1 system).
