Does that mean that AVG 2015 has been introduced ?
It may just mean your virus definitions are out of date. Or there is a minor release update for your current version.

AVG have a website which provides no indication that the pop-up is genuine. There has therefore to be a suspicion that clicking on it might have nasty consequences - the fourth possibility.
Perhaps I should add that AVG 2014 says that my protection is up to date.

The pop-up is legitimate and related to its service pack. It will also show if you are using the previous version of AVG. It's recommended for you to update it. However if you already cancel it and it doesn't show anymore you just need to download it on their site and run the app.
