Help with EAD Basic and Java please

Hi,

Recently reinstalled everything after an upgrade.

Now when I try to log into EAD I get an error message "Wrong Java Plugin < 1.6.0.27, please update your plugin"

Now I have Java 1.6.0.32 installed which is what the support desk state is the supported plugin. In fact on their email I have the settings as they should be.

So I appear to have got something screwed up somewhere but for the life of me I can't see the wood for the trees.

Any ideas please while I await the next "standard" answer from eurocontrols support.

Should have added that my system is Win7 64 Bit, 16g ram and and AMD FX8350 CPU.

Could be a cache issue as some java apps have loathesome cache management and leave bits lying around.

Could be a classpath issue as some java apps package their own JVM.

1. Clear as much cache as your app will let you, including browser cache.
2. Look at your CLASSPATH variable and ensure that it includes a file path reference to the correct version of Java. The CLASSPATH can be configured in 2 places a) OS System settings b) The application launch script. The correct version of Java should be listed at the start of the CLASSPATH

So far still no joy. took off all the Java stuff I had installed, ran CCleaner to delete references to Java in the registry, then ran regedit to check for any stray entries and reinstalled 1.6.0.32 as pre Eurocontrols email.

Same error message. So far Eurocontrols support desk has not replied to my second email from a cople of days ago so I've sent them another.

I can't work out whats gone wrong here. The only change to my system is that I changed from a spin up hard drive to an OCZ SSD setup via my PCI slots. Thats now my main startup drive and everything boots up and runs OK bar EAD. Very annoying to say the least.

open up a cmd window and type java -version
If the old version comes up then it's just a matter of identifying where the binary lives, a clue would be to look at your PATH environment variable.

Another gotcha in Java land is that you can have both JAVA and JRE installed.
JAVA is the compiler and runtime interpreter
JRE is the just the runtime interpreter

Normally you if you have installed JAVA you don't need to install JRE as it's already bundled with JAVA. Check to see if you have both installed and if so then consider removing the JRE.

Another gotcha is some bigger Java apps install a JRE inside the app. Sometimes when they release stuff they forget to bundle the correct version of Java and tell you about it and how to fix it in the RELEASE_NOTES (who reads that!). Sometimes installing the JRE is an option during the installation of the Java app, if so, then the RELEASE_NOTES may say something about that. Now where to find the location of the RELEASE_NOTES?

I can't see the SSD disk being an issue unless it came with management tools that need a JRE to run, in which case try putting the tool path location at the end of the PATH environment variable.

A few months back, I got fed up with problems logging on due to the latest versions of Java not suiting Eurocontrol. I decided that I didn't want a second, older, version on my computer and so opted to use the non-Java-requiring Simple Mode instead. It was a simple thing to do via the My Profile/Password option at the top of the page and selecting the Simple Mode/Plain HTML access option.

Since then, I have had no problems although I only use it for PAMS Light in connection with flight simming. It may be that you need the Java version for whatever reason. If not however, I suggest you do what I did.

Eurocontrols helpdesk also came up with that one but because the error is when I try and log in I can't get that far to change it to simple, which I think is what it was/is set to anyway.

Yes I've done that already and it shows the version as per eurocontrols emails. Appears I'm not the only one according to the guy I've been in contact with. That other persons problem sorted itself out when he went back to 1.6.0.27 which I'm going to try later when I get a bit of spare time later today.

Yipee, all sorted. The offender was IE, tried google crome and it worked first time.

Don't know why IE was playing up as it worked before. Don't care now as I'm going to dump IE very shortly.

Glad you got it sorted in the end clicker.

Looks like it's defo browser cache which can be a real pain with java objects and java scriptlets. I've seen this issue with all the browsers, the solution just requires a manual cleanup which involves getting to know the innards of your browser. The problem with Microsoft is that they tend to store temporary crud everywhere .

I'm not an IE user and now pleased to see you're not anymore .

SLFool, I lost count on how many times I removed Java in that saga, each time I did check control panel to make sure it had gone and also that when I installed the next try it had been accepted by IE.

Funny but in the end it did me a favour. My system appears more stable since I dropped IE for Google Chrome.
