Have been using FirePox as a browser for a fair while on both our PCs, no problem. SWMBO complained today that her PC was slow. Turns out that FF is running add-ons in a separate space in order to protect FF if the add-on crashes.

Brilliant bit of software - takes 95% of the CPU and the 'puter runs like a dog. Fix is to go into about:config, which you type into the FF address bar, and then you can change a setting to turn it off. Fair enough.

So type in about:config and FF prepends www. to it and says it can't find the page. The way to turn off the prepending --- go to the configuration page by typing in about:config!

Also not impressed by FF recently.

Using SRWare Iron* more and more frequently these days.

I have used FF as my main browser on both Win & Ubuntu for the last three years and its suddenly become very unreliable especially under windows. Application crashes during normal use what three times a week in either operating system using a number of computers.

Mozilla seem to be squandering the "Goodwill" of the reputation FF has accrued over the years.

I've never liked Firefox. Its numerous bells and whistles make it memory-heavy and slow to load and it still has some annoying habits. It also, by current standards, has a singularly ugly interface. I know that doesn't matter as far as functionality is concerned but I do like the look of Chrome. Having veered back and forth between various browsers, Safari currently works well on Mac with Mavericks and is by far the fastest.

I agree that FF is resource hungry - at least for memory. Looking just now it's about 200MB RAM, only with PPRuNe open. I've never noticed it being particularly CPU intensive, though.

Possibly it could be if you have a lot of extensions / add-ons etc. Or if you have a virus or other malware!!

Vulcanised - I've installed the Iron and I'm very pleased with it, much faster, considerably less memory use, just need to learn it's little foibles now. Thanks for the tip.

I have FF 25.0.Entering 'about:config' in the address bar brings up the expected settings page fine for me (W7)

Memory Hog

FF Ver 25 just logged into PPRuNe - 685 MB of Memory used - I've lots (6 GB) but that seems excessive I will re Check on my Win Box and update if different PS No complex processes running in the background. (Shutting down FF and looking at Mem usage when just Op Sys running - No swap files in use by the way).

Update: Just sitting there - the P/C "consumes" ~450 MB of RAM so FF. Ver25 consumes 235Mb approx, like the other poster says.

On a smaller P/C that's going to mean a swap files is going to be used especially if multiple tabs are open.

Alternatively: my PC is unbeknown to me, conducting the control of a very big Bot - Net - Hopefully not, the Pi twinkling away; intermittently seems normal.

Edit: I have Https Everywhere and Ad Block running as add ons.

512MB here on Linux with about 30 tabs open after running for three and a half weeks.

Maybe it's a Windows problem?
