Internet telly prob?
Neighbour across the way has bought a new posh panasonic viera telly which seemingly gets the internet via wireless or rather it did as it no longer does.
The set up ie detect network displays a different IP address from the one I found on his puter,ie Command line and type ipconfig,
Also tried the website findmy ip,which gives a different one again,
There seems to be a manual way of inputing the IP address but which one should I believe?
I have no experience of Internet tellys.

I had this problem recently with my Samsung smart tv. It was not talking to my wifi. The engineer came in and replaced the motherboard. This would have cost a fortune if I had to pay for it, so as the warranty has expired I've insured it for £60 a year.

Thanks chaps, did a bit more googleing last night, apparently it is a common problem, new set sets itself up works fine for a while then ceases to talk to the internet, various solutions suggested.
As for the ip thing apparently we all have two ip addresses a public one and a private one,not sure what that was all about,so the wifi hub has a different one from the puter itself, err I think.
The general concensus seems to be that wireless connected telly internet is not very good anyway direct connection with a good honest length of copper cable with a ethernet plug on each end being better.
Thanks anyway, one shall recommend he gets the bloke out from Comet to fettle the buggah.

My daughter who has done one of those deals with Sky - phone, bb, sat, etc, has technical knowledge with a negative number. Tells me that she rang Sky who talked her thro' the process in terms which even she could understand. To the best of my knowledge it's worked flawlessly for the past 4 months.

Mr Draper,
Let me guess, the telly has a self-assigned address from the 169.254.0.0/16 range because its unable to sort itself out over DHCP ?
Does the telly have a USB port, is a software update and/or management tool available from the manufacturer website ? Have you researched the possibility of a "hidden/engineer" menu ?
Have you tried updating the software on the router ? Reserving an IP for that TV based on its MAC address ?
Sometimes you do come across devices that, for whatever reason can't manage to talk to a given DHCP server. Quickest fix is manual settings.

Sorry chaps I don't remember what the IP on the telly was ,he hasn't had it long just a few weeks, his son who is a bit more puter savy said after the initial set up they did get the internet on it, tried it once then forgot about it until yesterday.
I'm going to leave it to the bloke from Curries,if it were mine I might persevere but buggrit.
Thanks anyway chaps.
