Pprune icon on desktop?
Can I click any relevant sequence of mouse buttons and key strokes to get an ICON on my desktop that would allow instant connection to pprune - without first opening the browser and then the pprune link.
Winows XP and IE6.

Yes.
On the Desktop Right Click and select -> New -> Shortcut
in the 'Location of item' box tpye www.pprune.org and click on Next.
Type anything you like for the description and click on Finish
Note: Tested on Windows 2000 Prof but should work on XP.

yes...very easy...you can do that with any Windows version with active desktop and with any link you like.
1. Create a shortcut to your favorite browser on the desktop
2. right click on it and select PROPERTIES
3. in the target window you see something like this:
leave this as is and add a space and now paste the address of the page you want to open with this link.
4. click on OK
5. rename the link as you like
hope this was what you are after
oopss...sorry, looks like the posts have crossed each other...

Thanks guys...worked a treat.
Didn't want to simply duplicate the explorer icon as it may (I say again, may) have trashed my home page.
Thanks again...sorted!!

Good one, aisleman, but you have to do that when you are at Forums Home; otherwise it just creates a shortcut right back to where you were when you created it. In my case that was this thread!
Great tip , though!
A really neat trick would be to be able to convert the PPRuNe logo, which can be downloaded as a gif or bmp file, to an icon file so that the icon for your PPRuNe shortcut would be specific and individual instead of like all the other IE shortcuts.
Assuming that the Bosses would not object to the logo being copied to thousands of desktops around the world.

fobotsco...also this is possible. Once the shortcut is on your desktop, right click it and select PROPERTIES, click the tab WEBDOCUMENT and click the CHANGE ICON button...any icon can be selected here.
I tried to make a PPRuNe icon but it is not recognizable as PPPuNe.
If you need any *.gif file converted into *.ico, just let me know...takes a second here...but prepare the gif to have exactly 150x150 pixel.

Gone West, what aisleman refers to are the three grey squared buttons, if you have the browser maximized the procedure does not work, you need to click the middle one (and if you keep your mouse hovering over it you will see the label RESTORE DOWN) and the browser resizes down.
I am able to do the icons....provide me with a gif file as mentioned, mail it to [email protected] and you will receive your icon asap.
testing here...
well, obviously the browser can only take this pic as a bmp file. Anyway, this icon is ready and waiting and it is in the correct size (not as large as it is here...but as said, it is not really recognizable...

Thanks FL310.
I've just been playing with a Program I've found on the web called NeoPaint for Windows. It does the trick for creating icons very well. It'll cost $60US if you use it after the 30 day evaluation period.
Go here: http://www.neosoftware.com/npw.html
It'll take a while to get the hang of sizing the final product so that it looks right on the Desktop. The default Windows Icon seems to be a ½ inch square and on my screen that comes to about 40 pixels each way. The PPRuNe icon is rectangular but it fills that square and is therefore distorted. But at least it's now different from the others!
So it's possible, but more work required to achieve perfection......

Corel Draw 10 (I don't know if 9 has the option as well) does the job very easily. Base is a 150x150 pixel picture, saved as gif, than saved as icon, resizes automatically to correct dimensions.
If anyone wants the above icon than right click and save target as and select where you want to save it.
