Mike WSM and others. Motorola have failed to provide working software!!!

T-Mobile have just confessed to my software version being defective. It has been known for ages, but they don't readily tell people. Thumbscrews obtained the answer.

MR have no intention of writing a working version. I've yet to let loose on them (ho ho) but intend to do so. I'm not holding my breath.

Blur Ver 1.32.24 is known to be faulty. "No updates available." Thanks Motorola, it's been a long haul getting my four replacement phones and now worthless operating system. So no real surprise this has happened.

If I'd wanted to use the wi-fi part earlier, I'd have had some arguing power for a change of phone type, but really, that's academic. Loads of people have been let down with little but a shrug of the shoulders from MR.

Blur is not an operating system. It is a skin or User Interface place on top of Android which is the operating system. Your phone is running Android 1.5 which is the equivalent of Windows 95 or thereabouts.

As to Motorola having failed to provide working software, that is clearly not the case as you have been using your phone for some years. That there are issues with functionality is par for the course. That happens with all phones just as manufacturers deciding to stop updating does.

Why don't you just finally get around to grabbing the bull by the horns and ditch the phone, or better yet install CyanogenMod on it.

Talking about it forever isn't going to fix it.

Thanks, that's makes things a lot clearer.

The reasons I don't want to change are - Money. Unlocked. Loads of batteries and chargers etc. Oh, and its a very, very clear phone.

There is 'Firmware Version 1.5' listed but after an hour with MR, they tell me it would cost. $109 plus tax and shipping to put the OS right.

The last guy, a level 2 man (swoon) went to get an XT because he couldn't believe the phone was so erm, disadvantaged. He then said it was an 'on the bench' fix.

A non-starter.

KBP I'm bewildered. I looked at CyanogenMod. The file manager downloaded like a dream and I can see into the SD card for the first time!

Thanks for that - I'll look at it in more detail when I catch up with my day.

sometimes the network operator upgrades the network software and the phone just can't quite hack it, or so I am told by the CPW after they failed to repair my Galaxy Ace 3 times. Apparently the phone tests (on their equipment) and calibrates OK but as soon as I try to use it in their (Talk-Mobile) network it fails to keep registered.

Funny thing though, Samsung denied that there was any issue between the Galaxy Ace and any of the networks.

CPW are still selling the Ace bundled with Talk-Mobile. Duh.

Someone is telling me porkies.

After much wrangling with them, the CPW has offered me a somewhat better phone as a replacement, which I accepted, and then they tried to retract the offer. "that is not one of the phones we can replace the Ace with". Sorry, but it is on your screen that you made the offer and that I accepted it. It has still taken them nearly 2 weeks to deliver it and I am still waiting ..........

Good job I got a really good phone to keep my SIM in while they get their act together.

Thanks, Mike. Until you posts I wasn't aware phones did that. Just got the only smart device I've ever owned, and since my laptop makes most trips with me, never thought much about it.

There is no doubt I need double the square footage of the present screen. So when I get back home I'll no doubt 'bite the bullet.'

Thanks again KBP for the head's up on CyanogenMod, and the clarification about the 'skin.'

I have to confess some of the toys are astonishing. I now have a nifty scientific calculator, and a big clear timer, and gasp, an audio tuner. I spent a year developing a machine to tune concert grand pianos and to think one can now carry a tuner in one's phone is mind-blowing. Mind you, my machine did ring the strings on the piano, but conversely weighed 30 lbs.
