Multiple security systems on my computor?
I am just a basic computor user...e mails,internet surfing,google earth and the like.
My query is this..
I use win 7 and have Microsoft Security Essentials. MSE seems to have a good reputation. I run a security check every week and have done since I bought the computor 3 years ago and it has never yet found anything.
I presume it cannot be 100% effective so I am wondering if I should also use another security system as a backup. Something like Spybot,Ad Aware or AVG etc.
Are there likely to be problems with one system affecting the other ?

MSE is fine. You may want to run an on-demand scanner from time to time just to reassure yourself, but you don't want to install a full-time antivirus product. Incidentally, MSE includes the functionality of Windows Defender, which is why the latter is switched off when MSE is installed.

Malwarebytes is well worth installing but please not that it is NOT an antivirus program.
Kaspersky have a nice simple Root Kit Killer. Google TDSS Killer for the lastest version.
Whatever you do, DON'T install Norton. It is rubbish!!

Win7 is much more secure than XP or Vista (but less than Linux/Unix/OSX)
Stick with MSE - don't install AVG in parallel, it adds little and will clog your machine up.
Run Malwarebytes once a week
Don't open unknown emails & don't visit warez sites
Opera is a great (and less used/targeted) browser with a good email client
Sudo for Windows is a great (and free) utility - Sudo for Windows | Free System Administration software downloads at SourceForge.net - logon as an ordinary (limited) user and elevate privileges as needed.
Sandboxie - Sandboxie - Sandbox software for application isolation and secure Web browsing - is good if you are feeling adventurous (mostly free but worth the registration).
Mac
A known-good system image to off-line storage is reassuring
An off-line/off-site backup of anything important is mandatory.
