Firefox-newtabs going straight to "searcnu.com"
Please, how do I stop this happening?
Tried a lot of stuff including removing the damn thing with windows cp program software remover, still here!

Guys [and galls] I have spent two nights going at this and other little problems picked up online by a less than cautious offspring of mine.
But success, eventually, by first removing program then finding the code in ff extensions manager.
It's a real PIA.

You may have got it off, but best to assume the machine has been compromised. These toolbars often have secondary payloads
I suggest you take the usual Spyware removal route:
scan in turn with
Hitman Pro
Combofix
Malwarebytes
Spybot S&D
Then install the antihijack program from www.browswerprotect.org - which is quite good at blocking such infections
