Passwords not being remembered

Arrghh I'm going nuts entering sites and having to continually log in despite clicking the "remember me" button. I've just bought a new computer running Windows 7 and this wasn't a problem until I used one of those USB bridging cables to move all my files from my old computer running XP to my new one. It transferred all my previous favourite sites over and into a folder, but it will not remember passwords. Can anyone help?

I suggest that the cable connection that you used is not relevant. You've either set, or imported, settings that don't retain passwords etc.
I moved from XP SP3 to 7/64 using the cable and the associated M/S software. All worked fine.
I don't know what explorer you are using - FF, IE, Chrome, but they all have tools that let you decide what they will remember.
I have my FF set to remember nothing, ever, and if the programme does remember anything, I get CCleaner to remove it.

FF has tools/privacy. Settings are in there. Don't know about the others.

I use the same technique. NO passwords or cookies retained, ever.

Not long after posting, I discovered that I couldn't play youtube vids either. I did a system restore, which fixed it and the password problem, so it all seems to be working again, though I don't know if I did something wrong in the transfer between computers.

Edited to add that the system restore has deleted a load of stuff I carried over. To be honest I think I will copy the stuff on the old one to a USB drive and put it on the new one rather than use the bridging cable. It said in the blurb that I would be able to choose what I copied over, but I can't recall getting a prompt for that, and ended up with load of stuff I didn't want to keep onto the new computer.

you can be selective as to what carries across but it means disabling the transfer of any user profiles and then selecting individual files and folders and individually matching source /destination
The problem is often the settings on an old machines profile are not applicable to a newer version of windows - I suspect the case here
I've always preferred simply copying the files - either by piggybacking the old drive, or via a pen drive or similar

The only files I can never find are the ones that itunes has squirreled away somewhere. Even tho' I have always checked the "keep itunes media folder organised" box AND the "copy files to media folder" box, itunes has never kept the files where it says it keeps them.
I found this probalem in XP SP3 and in 7/64.
So if I can't find them, I can't copy them.
At least the cable/software upgrade method found all/most of my music files.

PS .This post is not a request for a "how to". I am quite content in my ignorance.
