I'd like to edit [shorten] a couple of small mp4 files, what software, preferably free/shareware, would be best?

I personally prefer adobe's audition 3.0 its simple, yet very efficient!

Most versions of Windows come with Windows Movie Maker, which would allow you to edit clips. Macs often come with iMovie, which serves the same purpose.
